I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.
One way to be safe is to never write an electability take
She's been asking her patients where they plan to go next and has heard the same thing over and over: “I’m not sure. I’m not sure. I’m not sure where I’m going to go."
Kat Donnelly, a nurse with Healthcare for the Homeless, spent Tuesday scrambling to refill medications and make sure patients knew where to find her ahead of the Pig's Eye Park encampment closure Wednesday morning.

Recent reporting by the Washington Post found that the Trump administration's DOGE effort last year delayed a $10 million grant that was supposed to help thin out dead trees in the Superior National Forest as a way to reduce the fire risk.

My new favorite political pastime is scanning MN republican candidate’s posts for AI generated old MN flags. It is telling that none of them know the old flag enough to recognize the errors. These are both from Mike Lindell
I'm old enough to remember when party strategists and talking heads said we should support conservative antichoice, anti-gun control Democrats bc they could ostensibly win in the states & districts where they were running. Now that same group of strategists is pissy about progressives and (gasp) DSA
New in PN: Moderate Democrats have a choice to make "They can spend the next three months reinforcing Republican messaging about their party & making it less likely Dems take power. Or they can put the 'battle for the soul of the party' off for a while and do what they can to help their party win."
Hundreds gathered outside Overland City Hall to honor former residents Glendy González de la Cruz and Nixon Perez Paz. The couple was found bound and shot to death in Guatemala weeks after reuniting following his deportation.
Mourners decry Overland couple's killing in Guatemala, call for ICE accountability
“We need pathways to citizenship, but a pathway to better citizenship for us all,” said Yery Castillo, a friend of the late Glendy González de la Cruz. "Citizenship that provides us access to…

Today in @minnesotareformer.com: the story of Orbin Mauricio Henriquez Serrano, whose violent arrest by Border Patrol agents at a St. Paul Speedway went viral in the early weeks of Operation Metro Surge. You may have seen the video of him losing consciousness — and his breath seeming to stop.
Orbin Mauricio Henriquez Serrano survived a violent arrest in St. Paul. It still haunts him. • Minnesota Reformer

This article is incredibly moving and motivating -- highly recommend, especially if you're feeling hopeless.
Despite local loyalty to Trump, his administration’s acquisition of the former Big Lots dealt an immediate blow to the local economy: The school district, county, and township lost nearly $1 million in annual property taxes.
We spent early July watching Graham Platner's campaign implode because of abuse; now it's a Republican's turn. Let all this be a reminder of how pervasive violence against women and children is across the political spectrum.
After Max Miller’s statement, Bernie Moreno finally issues a statement denouncing Miller, saying he needs psychological help and should not be in Congress.

Soooo many campaigns and advocacy orgs are using AI for social media graphic design and NGL it makes me think less of those candidates and orgs when I see it.
at this point I would prefer a janky poster or advertisement made in Microsoft Word than whatever AI image generators keep cranking out
Having opinions on fonts and layout design seems goofy until you attend 20+ industry conferences and see too many people fill slides with walls of tiny text few people can read or understand. And now AI slop posters. Graphic design matters.

I believe you it's worse there than DC, but one of my "before vs. after COVID times" theories is that people forgot how to accommodate others in shared space. I am regularly getting run off DC sidewalks by groups 2-4 abreast who just expect me to evaporate when we cross paths, I guess?
My least favorite things about being back in the midwest beside car culture are Minnesotans‘ general lack of spacial awareness in more crowded areas

The thing about sexual harassment cases is that it isn’t a popularity contest. Even if you ostensibly don’t like the person being harassed, harassment is harassment is harassment. All the wiener jokes are quite a lot! You’ve all pretty much made the same one cuz it is Wednesday! Now be done.
