I think people also often focus on an incomplete picture of AIPAC's campaign finance operation. they have the dark money that everyone focuses on, but they also have a mass donor base that mostly donates direct to campaigns, either via out-in-the-open bundling or more clandestine fundraising efforts

AIPAC has a mass base of rich older mostly Jewish Americans that funds its shit, though the super PAC arm draws a lot of its money from megadonors tbf

Decided to look up the Las Vegas solo practitioner who represented Kash Patel in a hilariously shoddy 2023 defamation lawsuit that just got dismissed, and it turns out she's now the second-in-command in the local U.S. Attorney's Office

This seems related to why I could not understand how southern whites did not think of themselves as racists. And the answer I think is that they believe you must use the n-word to be a racist, and if you are polite to a single black individual (and you probably are now a days) you cannot be racist

Coming out as trans convinced me that both things are true because Republicans are stupid and cannot see basic connections between things. They can like every trans person they know, think trans people should be wiped out, and not understand how the trans people they know would be impacted by this.

The cognitive disconnect between these verses in Matthew and what I understood to be evangelical culture kept me from learning more about Christianity for decades. I only recently learned evangelicals like her basically pretend Matthew doesn’t exist

I think Yglesias is basically right that audience capture is an exceptionally powerful force, far more than commonly acknowledged; the problem is that one of the best extent examples of this is Yglesias himself.
