my somewhat unconventional bond opinion is that you don’t want any of your favorite big name actors in this role, because the bond contracts are notoriously restrictive about what films they can do for like a decade

Micah@rincewind.run · 3h ago

my extremely boring James Bond opinion is that casting a handsome young dude who can credibly punch bad guys and smolder sexily at ladies is all we need to do here it's James Bond, there's a formula, people like the formula, people will watch the formula

You mean he *merely* made women’s employment contingent upon their tolerance of his sexual overtures and imposition of gendered indignity? Remembering that this used to be the kind of thing women could complain and even sue over suddenly sounds like an unheard of luxury. …

So many Republican male lawmakers have been accused of physical and sexual violence against women that the report about this guy, who harassed his employees with unsolicited gifts, inappropriate comments, and demands for dinners, seems almost quaint. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/u...

House Ethics Panel Finds Rep. Chuck Edwards Likely Violated Sexual Harassment Rules

The Ethics Committee called for the censure of Representative Chuck Edwards, Republican of North Carolina, who showered two female staffers with lavish gifts and affection.

Something telling: Blanche said the DOJ is working so the "Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state"—making clear they never saw Dobbs as giving abortion 'back to the states', but a tool to ban abortion nationwide

This is a big fucking deal, if true. (He could be posturing.) Blanche also promised that the DOJ is dismantling the FACE Act, the law that protects clinics from violence. Subscribe to AED to find out what it all means—I'll have the full story in the newsletter, along with the rest of the audio.

Listen to Todd Blanche—Trump’s nominee for AG—tell faith leaders that the Justice Dept is working with the White House to stop the shipping of abortion pills into banned states. “We will have victory, victory will be soon, and it will be permanent,” he said.

SARS-CoV-2 did not come from a lab. There is no evidence pointing to laboratory origins. There’s been a massive disinformation campaign to convince the public otherwise. It’s scary how effective that campaign has been.

this is a weird line to draw since the liberal position (correct) is that it's not reasonable to summarily execute people in international waters even if they're involved in drug trafficking and the conservative position is that you must do that even if you kill a bunch of innocent people too

The US military’s strikes on alleged drug boats have likely illegally killed “individuals who are not involved in narcotrafficking,” Sen. Tim Kaine told the White House, following “a careful review” of classified information he has seen so far.

Republicans love pushing vocational-only education instead of comprehensive-education because they want a healthy supply of low-cost servants and less competition for the professional and boss jobs they want their own kids to have.

In a college sociology class in the late 1980s I was assigned a Marxist analysis of education that argued that the US education system is designed primarily to produce efficient workers for the labor market. And now Trump’s Department of Education is just tweeting it out.

A gentle reminder before I fuck off to eat breakfast: The push to replace artists with AI is a fascist push. The devaluing of arts and humanities in favor of engineering and computers is a fascist push. Students being unable to read a book is, yep, a fascist push.

The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.

So Kansas votes tomorrow on whether to elect its Supreme Court justices. In 2022, Kris Kobach said doing exactly this would let Kansas “slowly and quietly” put anti-abortion judges on the court. Now it’s on the ballot. If you know somebody in Kansas, they should know this is going on.

my mom just asked me if my NAS is like "data centers" and after i explained how small-form personal servers worked, she said "okay, that's fine. but if the water bill starts going up, we're going to city council." my mother is 60. yall, AI is so cooked

A reminder: If you absolutely cannot boycott Amazon, don’t. But can you make them NOT your default? If every Amazon customer cut their spending by just 10%, Bezos would burst his facelift sutures. This doesn’t have to be an all or nothing.
