Saying you'll pirate it instead misses the point that keeping the IP relevant is part of the issue. How about you simply pirate it quietly and keep it to yourself? Why do you feel so compelled to share that your enjoyment of the franchise is more important than the harm it does to trans folks?

I'll add some nuance here — most local pushback against data centers is actually quite fluent, and not grounded in the more wild-eyed rhetoric you see on social media. Very often, the core premise is a simple, correct one: you can't trust what Big Tech says in its promises to a local community.

It’s a popular revolt against the tech oligarchs, not about data centers per se. Yes, streaming sites also use data centers. Yes, data centers don’t actually use up a lot of drinking water. Accuracy is good for its own sake. But still, right or wrong about data centers themselves isn’t the point.

"Reasonable consumers" rightfully expect their $60–80 license to play a title to not be revoked at the whim of the publisher or platform. And they expect to be able to freely transfer that license. Forcing consumers to digital-only licenses only to erode their rights with an increased price point.
