I'd rather picture books & children's books where boys just happen to have long hair or a pink coat, or be best friends with a girl who enjoys the same activities as them, or where a monster character is a she rather than a he, or where girls are naughty at school & boys are kind.

Great article from @avial.bsky.social and @adamstanaland.bsky.social about how boys are motivated to avoid femininity by age 5. Their results show that the problematic trend that "masculine" things are cool for everyone but "feminine" things are only for girls/women starts early.

Gender conformity starts young – and boys and girls fall in line in different ways

Children learn what it means to be a woman or a man early on. How they respond to threats to how well they conform to gender stereotypes changes with age.

I feel this way about pretty much all vaccine-preventable infectious diseases. You shouldn't be allowed to dump cyanide into municipal drinking water and you shouldn't be allowed to recreationally spread viruses around shared public spaces.

My most authoritarian opinion is that the MMR vaccine should be mandatory, with only medical (not religious or floofy) exemptions allowed. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention. The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.

Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.

Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

this is a good reminder of how things that are shitty but have been accepted as normal and inevitable can actually turn out to be abnormal and evitable with some science, time, education and political will

reddit post from a presumably young person who watched sex and the city and couldn’t get over how much people smoked indoors. “wouldn’t everything smell bad?” they asked

Remembering when I posted this photo from Glasgow and a guy’s daughter, sheltering from a hurricane in Florida, saw it and drew this amazing sketch to pass the time. My question is, why invest in AI when we have immensely talented humans all around us more in need of investment?

Graphic that shows that among republicans, support for school vaccine requirements has dropped from 79% in 2016 to 52% in October 2025.
