We celebrate Eva Marie Saint, who died today at 102. A #SagAftraMember since 1947, Saint won an Oscar for her film debut in 'On the Waterfront' and starred in 'North by Northwest.' An advocate for organized labor, she leaves an enduring example for generations of union members.
The fascist monopolization of US media, intent on ending what's left of democracy on behalf of billionaire mobsters, was finalized by a Democratic-appointed SCOTUS justice.
Eli Valley@elivalley.bsky.social · 7d agoDemocrats caved and/or facilitated this monopolization of practically every major media property in the US into the hands of a MAGA fascist psychopath. If the US had an opposition party, each of its presidential contenders would would vow to dissolve this monopoly by any means necessary.
It can still disable you. Forever. People had a hard time when restaurants closed for a few weeks. It was seemingly the worst thing that had ever happened to them. Imagine being so sick that you have to stay home for five years. And you're still sick, and there's no treatment, there's no cure. 😷
Dr Elisa Perego@elisaperego78.bsky.social · 3d agoThe pandemic isn't over and Covid isn't "endemic". It's still a pandemic disease with waves across the globe. It can still make you sick, kill you, hospitalize you

HAPPY MEAL HISTORY: When the concepts for the McDino Changeables were proposed, one toy was going to be a Filet-O-Fish, not the Chicken McNuggets box. Given that the FOF was more of an adult thing, this toy was pulled before distribution and changed to a yellow McNuggets design.

I really wish that Covid hadn’t happened, but it did, and either we adapt to the reality that it makes some people permanently sick and at risk, and they still deserve humanity, or we keep scapegoating and ostracizing anyone who points that fact out, anyone who has to survive it, anyone broken by it
A few scientific facts. Covid is a multi-system disease with sequelae in all organs. SARS-CoV-2 didn't not disappear; actually a new variant is on the rise in multiple countries (PJ.2.1). It's not endemic. SARS-CoV-2 is airborne, namely it can spread and linger in the air a bit like cigarette smoke.
As a vintage McDonald's guy, I'm often asked: "what your favorite set of Happy Meal toys of all time?" Even though I've seen and owned em all, the answer is always the 1993 Halloween McNugget Buddies. The best designed, most nostalgic toys there's ever been.
