The bar is playing Leprechaun in the Hood and it’s definitely the beer talking because this movie sucks but it really is crazy how any old garbage looks better than whatever you’re all seeing in theaters right now

I think about this a lot as someone who was raised in a Republican household, veered left at a liberal university, and am now more left than I’ve ever been as I approach 60.
Everyone thinks they’re immune to hitler particles until they hit peak lifetime earnings. I have said this and will keep saying this, particularly for the website full of millenials approaching their mid-40s.
Why am I just now learning we're less than two weeks away from the new season of THE RISE AND FALL OF REGGIE DINKINS?
I had the opportunity to talk with Jason Ikeler, director of the new documentary SAFE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY, about the darker side of the Christian music industry. chrisicisms.substack.com/p/the-chrisi...

His death in ALIEN still makes me jump. Also, RIP to a fellow Detroiter (who also attended Wayne State University -- my alma mater and employer). Also, my wife's last name is Skerritt...spelled slightly differently, but he looks so much like her dad I have to believe they were distantly related.
NEW YORK (AP) — Tom Skerritt, a durable character actor with roles in 'Picket Fences,' 'Alien' and 'Top Gun,' dies.
I'm slightly curious mainly because there was enough I liked in the first season and I think Flanagan is talented and understands King. But the very existence of a season 2 and the narrative decisions that set it up are all the things that soured me on season 1.
Following the series’ impressive debut, Prime Video announced today that it has given the green light to Carrie Season Two. www.vitalthrills.com/carrie-seaso...
I love YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING, which I think is one of the best documentaries of the century. And while Fielder deserves a lot of credit, it feels like a lot of people are also ignoring that he's a co-director and that Lance Oppenheim has been an accomplished doc director for many years.
Guests 👏 are 👏 celebrating 🎉
Airbnb hosts are melting down over a new policy banning them from making guests complete tasks that “would typically be performed by a cleaner,” like “stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.” Read the full story: buff.ly/GHU32S5
Really liked the first seven episodes of Flanagan's CARRIE, but oof did I hate most of that finale. Robs Carrie of her agency and the story of its horror and tragedy just to build mythology for an unnecessary season 2.
Don't do this to creative people. I've written my share of bad reviews; it's fine for them to exist. I don't share them w the people they're about. There are channels thru which creative people made aware of people/publications that don't like their work. They don't need you tagging them, *really*
Why is it still necessary to tell people not to *tag me* in bad reviews of my book? You can write them! Share with your network! Think what you think! Do it on Goodreads! But when you tag me, you are tapping me on the shoulder and saying “I want to make sure you see this.” You don’t need to do that!
holy smokes, conan strikes up a chat with a random lady on the subway and she immediately starts riffing on his level, no problem.
Believe the hype. YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING is one of the best films of the year and one of the best documentaries of the decade. I haven't stopped thinking about it since I saw it on Saturday. chrisicisms.substack.com/p/you-can-se...
‘You Can See Everything’ is a documentary masterpiece

Trump: "We just extinguished a nuclear bomb from the worst country in the world, and our gas prices -- it's a small thing to pay -- our gas prices are lower than under Obama." (Iran never had a nuke and gas prices are not lower than they were 10 years ago)
Remember how nuts last weekend's movie roster was? This weekend brings us WILDWOOD, CLAYFACE, WICKER, A TALENT FOR MURDER, and KLARA AND THE SUN. Still playing: YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING, STREET FIGHTER, YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER, WHALEFALL, FORGOTTEN ISLAND, even a few DEVILS screens. Wow.
You can, however, sink it in a few hours.

A few years back, I showed my (then) 12yo son NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Ten minutes in, he asked "Dad, will this ever get scary?" . . . He did not ask it again the rest of the movie. chrisicisms.substack.com/p/night-of-t...

I’d love to see Wes Anderson’s version of WHALEFALL, where we see the guy inside the whale like a cutaway model. He’d call it THE CETACEAN SITUATION.

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. A reminder that platforms are owned by the wealthiest of people, control the means of media distribution, & put their thumbs on the democracy scale as they wish
There's an argument to be made that YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING is the first documentary that deserves two best actress nominations.

If you have been on the Nathan Fielder train for a while it is genuinely disorienting to have a project of his that everyone seems to like
Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s You Can See Everything now has a Metascore of [*99*]. See it in select cities today. www.metacritic.com/movie/you-ca... “Not only the greatest movie of the year, but also the most essential.” - Barry Hertz, Globe & Mail
Pratt was hilarious on Parks and Rec, and it was the comedy, not the badassery, that made Guardians pop. His choice to go stoic and tough since is baffling.
Chris Pratt took the wrong lesson from Parks and Recreation. He was at his best in Andy Dwyer mode, so he has naturally played every one of his big action-movie roles like he's the most dour version of Bert Macklin.
