Elon Musk is a world historical mass murderer whose actions will lead to the preventable death of millions and the implications of that are horrifying so Very Serious People make a huge performance of scoffing at the suggestion but it is the dry spreadsheet reality of what he did.
In terms of people who would otherwise have lived dying there’s a case for it being the worst thing any leader has done this century, easily one of the worst, but people usually on about Amerikkka are often silent because it is something good the US was doing that stopped in the worst possible way

Faine Greenwood@faineg.bsky.social · 4d agoSo sure, USAID was a tool of US soft power and political influence, and also, I sometimes get the sense that people saying this don’t quite comprehend the torrent of death, horror, and pain that is currently unfolding from the genuinely evil decision to suddenly destroy it.
It’s genuinely difficult to articulate how evil destroying USAID was. And it’s weird bc some people are so committed to the US anti-imperial angle that they skip right over the “literally the worst excesses of capitalism, the world’s richest man just decided to turn off money to poor people” angle.
I have to emphasize that even if I grant that you are sincerely mad at Josh Gottheimer, what is the point of trying to blame the 211 Dems who did the thing you want for the thing he did they you don’t like?

Voters got Orban out. Voters got Bolsonaro out. Voters got Trump out in 2020 (though other voters put him back in). Further back, voters got Pinochet out. You have to willfully shove your head in the sand to say voting can't do anything about this. In fact, it's probably the best way.

The Trump regime spread racist lies, ended the program, declared them illegal and rounded them up in chains for deportation. Now DHS is proudly posting videos of Black Haitians in chains.

We are a broken nation. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians were living and working legally, paying taxes, and contributing. Haiti remains wholly unsafe. But Trump hates Haitians, and the White House wanted videos of Black people in chains, so they stripped them of status and turned on the cameras.

The Piker angle is being thrown in here bc the huge love fest that MI Dems very publicly had right after the primary in support of El-Sayed makes it even more clownish to argue that they actually want him to lose, so this is a useful wedge to try and move the goal poasts back to their narrative.
So, like I was saying, we're watching a rerun of last year w Mamdani where the online left takes a few Ds & makes them a proxy for the entire party in order to make the claim that "The Democratic Party" want to see El-Sayed lose—despite all evidence to the contrary—bc their priors must be preserved
