Hi there, an educator here. We don’t need training on AI. We know what it is. We’re holding on for dear life until private equity decides to move on to the next shiny thing. I just hope there are enough of us still around to pick up the pieces.

“Teaching educators about AI is a ‘moral imperative’, said Randi Weingarten, the AFT president.” “And without outside funding, it was a choice between taking big tech’s money or doing nothing, she said.”

By the way, I missed some of the details of this story when it first came out. How does someone writing a book about the future of truth make use of AI and not know that one of the main concerns many (including and especially scholars) have about it is that it just makes stuff up?! It’s no secret!

Surely the solution here is just *don't use AI tools* for your writing and research and continue to do your writing and research in ALL the ways you were doing it before you started using AI instead of doing the work??

What blows my mind with AI is the people who are like "how could you possibly function without it?" To which I say, "you, YOU literally did until what like 3 years ago? Did it degrade your brain that fast that you can't figure out how to do the thing you trained for years and earned a PhD to do?"

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

First, this is fantastic. Second, it gives the lie to the idea that people need to “learn” how to use AI given that it’s become compulsory. What lurks behind the notion that people need tutorials in it is that AI “education” is just a how-to in avoiding its hazards. The real education is this ⬇️

“AI has become a blunt instrument in the enterprise to impose precisely this form of sanctioned ignorance about America’s past...Taken together, [Trump’s & Musk’s] plans amount to a one-two punch, history in the hands of the corporate state.” My latest on AI & history: www.salon.com/2026/07/28/t...

Trump and Musk both want to control America's history

The frenemies' strange obsession with historical "accuracy" has disturbing connections to big AI

I love this movie and am excited to watch with you guys, but I have to get it out of my system now: do not snap a painting’s stretcher in half with the painting still stretched on it. Right, now I can watch and not need to vent about that plot point. #HATM

"It's about money, theft, and... romance." Counterpoint: It's about two incredibly attractive people playing two incredibly smart and attractive people doing clever things while looking incredibly and casually attractive. 😎🍿 #HATM

Love this film. So much to unpack about the cultural history of 1990s New York/U.S. (Plus, I just saw the trailer for the new Michael B. Jordan version and it likewise looks great.)

I cannot rest from discourse. I will see that film again tomorrow. I will drink life to the lees. Again I will enjoy greatly, will suffer greatly, both with those that love me, and in Pleasantville NY. I am become a meme. Film showing: burnsfilmcenter.org/booking/the-...
