Bay Area friends: would you consider opening your home to these two cuddly cats? A friend found them behind a gas station. Their sibling, a black cat, got adopted, but it appears no one likes orange cats. They are being kept in a bathroom for the time being and need a home.
A friend of mine found these three kittens behind a Bay Area gas station. They are tame, vaccinated, and incredibly affectionate. Unfortunately, she's unable to keep them and I'm trying to find them a home. They are at risk of going to a shelter. Bay Area people, are you open to adopting?
I see we've reached the point in this particular summer of extremes where we are now having to BLOW UP rocks in drought-striken rivers to help send water towards gasping nuclear power plants www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...

Is it weird that I spend my days in farm or outdooor wear and yet admire the delicacy and handwork of well-made clothes? 🤔
A delicate Lammas dress from 1902 by Gustav Beer, richly decorated with silken wheat stalks, for drinking chouchen and telling fortunes in an old country garden, as a great golden moon rises in the dark Breton sky.
Hey Seattle don’t forget to vote by tomorrow evening, the low turnout for August elections means your vote is going to be extra potent, like you’ve been gooning for democracy
Your boss and your landlord have voted.
The effective federal corporate income tax rate: 1950: 50% 1990: 25% 2020: 13% Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate. That is how we will pay for it.
This link is to video from a bird feeder cam as the Old Trail Fire started and came to the neighborhood. Worth watching until the end- it’s only a bird feeder cam, not a movie, but the #bird returning after the fire blew through makes me want to cry. www.instagram.com/reel/Dbjp8-J...

I am still haunted by the new, young employee who went on medical leave shortly after she started at work and Covid started spreading. She filed repeated requests for sick time donations through the union, and then just… disappeared forever. 😔
I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
TL;DR: The Seattle Times editorial board is showing its entire ass. They are desperate to have Katie Wilson fail, and they're willing to make up bizarre conspiracy theories to facilitate that outcome.
Here’s a zoomed-in shot of the summit and Columbia crest glacier. Note how carved the mountain is by erosion. It’s been about 2,000yrs since the mountain has seen a voluminous eruptive period, so erosion has outpaced the mountain’s building.
Geeezusss- we have a statewide burn ban, half the state is on fire, and some dumba$$ across the river is lighting up illegal fireworks. I could hear music so I’m thinking there is a big party or event. Called 911.
I got mine in last week and yes, I researched the judicial candidates. One was a doozy. Only held my nose for one vote in the end. Go vote, people!!!
Yesssssssssssss
This is just heartbreaking. This account is updating and you can watch the fire expand on the maps in successive posts. Terrifying. I saw someone calling it the “pyrocene“ and they nailed it.
This fire now has a new name, the Old Trails Fire. – Currently 150-200 acres and growing – Crowning along the tree canopy (BAD!) – Moving north into Riverside State Park – PSPS has begun in North Indian Trail
Another fire that can't be contained because we are in a drought and have no damn water, but they want to build another data center in Spokane

Forgot to flag #Caturday. I rarely have cat posts because of my cat unfriendly dogs.
Okay, it’s a meta product (Insta), but it’s a post by a river restoration construction company that rescued kittens from one of their big machines and adopted little Sue. Equipment manufacturer Komatsu made Sue her own little hard hat and construction vest. 🥹
This here is a waste of taxpayer money big time.
It's a tough job, but literally no one has to do it

Great time lapse!
Happy #FieldworkFriday! We retrieved our trail cam from Emerald Ridge (RER) last week which took daily photos from September 2023 to January 2025. This insight shows that our extended solar panel plays a vital role, at times being the only thing above the deep snow.

huge mistake by Google and I hope they rethink it, or possibly think it for the first time
I used to do some work on the ethical use of satellite and drone imagery for aid and disaster response, and it is genuinely hard to express in words what a dangerous, stupid thing Google is doing by making it easy to use GenAI to create faked satellite imagery:
There is no meaningful use case for Google’s new “faking satellite imagery with AI” product.
Google put out a five-point bullet list of supposed use cases, it is, uh, not wildly convincing. My 'favorite' is 'have the stochastic parrot show your students what historical sites looked like in olden days'. blog.google/products-and...
Yeah sure, but Sam Altman says we’re in the singularity and poised for massive breakthroughs like nothing we’ve seen in human history because of AI. 🙃
The State Department said it takes "full responsibility" for "hastily" altering and then presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted. An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.
