no single tool or art project will "fix" climate change. our job as imaginative people with technical skills is to form a distributed but aligned ecosystem of creative interventions that identify harms, care and repair, and replace toxic patterns

The US built the greatest talent magnet ever, attracting the smart, skilled, and striving. They’d come to study, then stay and build things here, or leave with positive impressions and fruitful connections. Helped make the US wealthy and powerful. Then America chose to throw it away. And for what?

It’s worth noting that Taco Bell identified the source before the FDA did, and promptly pulled it from their stores. The FDA didn’t even name the source until Taylor Farms outed themselves, and hasn’t issued a recall. Basically, Taco Bell is now a more reliable authority than the FDA.

Taylor Farms, which supplies major fast food and grocery chains, was identified as the possible source of the cyclosporiasis outbreak Thursday.

Once at [Large company, ~20 years ago], new managers came in and demanded every bit of a huge app be “more purple”, setting design back several months. To this day, I dunno if they *really* thought it needed purple or were just juicing money from the other business unit funding us. Project died.

Robin-Yann knows this story because I told him in person, but I worked on a AAA game that went through *four* major iterations in three years, and the project was ultimately canceled after seven years of turmoil, throwing away some of the best work in my career 😊

"…as of July 2025, the CDC made tracking cyclospora optional, as part of scaling back its Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network. At the time, food safety experts worried that it could make it harder to identify and respond to outbreaks."

The demand for tests for cyclosporiasis, a pathogen often caused by contaminated fresh produce, is so intense, with so many patients seeking help for diarrhea and crippling abdominal cramps, that many labs can’t keep up.

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

They are shooting off *over 120 times* more fireworks than last year. I figure will be garish and unpleasant, on top of the warnings not to be outside without an n95 because of excessive smoke. These desperate, fumbling losers literally cannot do *anything* right.

Oh, and by the way, Trump is using $1.6 million from national park pass fees to pay for the fireworks. Because we can't afford to use that money to hire rangers or fix up the parks. We need it to pollute the air and water.

"During the raid, one of the Sotos’ children told Elizabeth’s attorney that police put a bag over their head and brought them in for an interrogation; another child was interrogated in the home." Children! Bagged and grilled by goons!!
