I have not seen the most recent, but I do think the general love of Spider-Man on screen is fascinating, when there have only been four (of 10) good movies, depending on your generosity towards SPIDER-MAN 3, and none of them star the current Spider-Man.

THE SAMURAI AND THE PRISONER is no doubt one of the ten best movies I'll see this year. Fits beautifully in line with a couple of other faves so far: films whose protagonists are at odds and exhausted with the way the world is. The possibility of something better is murky at best.

last thing i’ll say about Wilson’s Odyssey review is the meanness and snobbery would sit a lot better if she displayed even a fraction of the curiosity she’d no doubt admit is required to understand, say, Homer hell, her translation barely works without her 100-page introduction contextualizing it!
