I actually think the trillionaire saying his AI tool will remake a movie without the Black and trans actors in it should be a bigger story because it’s a perfect example of why the ruling class wants AI to succeed: so they can remake reality without those they deem undesirable - every nazi’s dream.

"Split Second" is a severely under-budgeted mishmash of half a dozen different genres that never really justifies its own existence (why watch this film when you could simply watch any of the much better films that it cribs from?), although it's clear the filmmakers have talent.

It really does just come from this inchoate sense, derived from the film 300 and half-remembered high school history, that the Spartans were the most manly men to have ever manned and that's it. It is that thick-headed and anti-intellectual. There is no grappling with the actual Sparta.

I am endlessly fascinated by right wingers' obsession with Sparta. I can understand an initial vibes based appeal I guess - like if you opened the first page of a book on timocracy and were twelve. but the thing about history is you can find out what happened to those guys
