there isn't a problem with the game's industry. there's a problem with every industry and every publicly traded company. getting a "nice CEO who cares" or whatever won't fix anything until things are addressed at a more fundamental societal level. the system will always drive towards this behavior.

another excellent tip: do what I did and use low-res dither-y visuals etc. to create visual coherence when you're kitbashing a game together with 98% free 3D assets from various sources!

tbh i like when a game can just use pixel art or lo-fi 3d PSX type aesthetics and not bother at all to position itself as either a riff on some 90's/early 00's game, or have some sort of plot point involving the 90's. just borrow those aesthetics and do your own thing - no one's stopping you!

i recall the first time i heard an indie dev talk about how their game was going to bring back the 90's and how that's all we really wanted. was a little taken aback to hear someone not, like, a gamergater speak like that without irony. now it's so normal to speak that way it's like background noise

I don't use it / don't know any writers who are using it (AFAIK). I started my career as a designer who wrote average dialogue as part of my job and over the past ~25 yrs have moved on to writing above average dialogue. I don't feel enticed to use it. I'd rather continue to slowly improve on my own.

The idea that all writers are using AI and just lying about it is not only NOT my experience with other writers, but I think that line of thinking is pure cope. We MUST be using it! I mean everyone THEY know is using it! How else do we get all this done??? Coffee. The answer is coffee & routine.
