Balcony solar. A solution coming to your city soon.
Not sure if everyone appreciates the difference. Rooftop solar hardwires into your main panel via a dedicated breaker, so it requires a permit, an installer, an electrician, and a utility agreement. Balcony solar just plugs into a wall outlet, sharing an existing circuit with no permits or rewiring.
If you look at the Philly trip from Cassie's perspective, Rona must be the most perplexing, fascinating, and unpredictable person on the planet.

Who do I hire to do one of those black and white portrait photoshoots where every pore and hair and wrinkle is visible and you look a thousand years old but somehow also like a timeless badass?
It's the calm before the storm* *like forty French aunts, uncles, cousins, and their kids descending on my in-laws' place for drinks and snacks and reminding me of their names for the 80th time and asking me how my French is progressing

Air travel is not worse today than it was forty years ago. Yes, it's pretty sucky if you focus your entire search based on lowest price. Even then, it's still mostly better. If you're willing to pay anything close to what you paid 20 years ago, inflation adjusted, it is *wildly* better.
an unfathomable amount of stuff has got better over the last 40 years - hell, even over the *last 15* - and anyone convinced it hasn't does not remember or know what things were like 15 or 40 years ago.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
if establishment candidates want to start winning primaries again all you have to do is say that rich people have too much money and that youll prosecute trump admin staffers and republicans that have broken the law
Honestly everyone goes "oh the prep is the worst part" which is 100% true but even that wildly oversells how arduous the prep is. It's just not that big a deal at all, and it helps you avoid a truly awful way to die young. Just go do it.
Well, I am of colonoscopy age now and I got my first-ever one yesterday. The prep wasn't fun but not as awful as I'd imagined. My appt was at 6am on Monday, I was home just after 7am. There's no recovery except catching up on the sleep you missed. So, if you need a nudge to get yours, this is it!
Barbarous is Ananth and @aidosaur.bsky.social at their absolute best. Compelling and messy and sexy and scary and funny. Read it.

Me: Ah, a double bed. Well, that's a bummer. Charlotte: Meh, it's fine. You're just too American. *two nights pass* Charlotte: Okay, this bed is too small.
Google weather has spent the last four days insisting that the daily high temp in Le Pouliguen is 8-10 degrees F cooler than a) other weather services say it is and b) my own nerve endings say it is, and I'm somewhat curious why this is.
Whoever invented the software that causes sites to endlessly spam you when you leave something in your cart should be shot directly into space without protective gear.
It's funny that cyberpunk did a whole side quest about people convincing themselves a natural language parser is sentient and uniquely understands them like four years before it started happening to some dude every eight hours.
My video games hot take is that achievements have been a net negative for the hobby and the obsession with platinuming games sucks

It is fucking WILD to see the national media completely losing its shit over NYC having a mayor who wants to try and do stuff that's good for non-rich people.
Are there any bsky accounts that just exclusively surface positive news?
"It also detected an “unintended consequence” of the ban: the proportion of parents who didn’t know their child had used social media increased by 10%." Spookily enough, this complacency side effect is precisely one of the things we warned about with this and the Online Safety Act in the UK.
Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...
THREAD/ORIGINAL ART GIVEAWAY This hare linoprint is by my mum, Jo. I'll be sending an original of this to one randomly chosen person who reposts this link to my recently updated website & pops a reply below. www.tom-cox.com The offer is open worldwide. I also have some more art to give away...
My nephew is three and a half and that seems to be the age at which kids are just fucking THRILLED to be able to put together coherent thoughts into words, so he just ... narrates. All the time. It's adorable. Mildly exhausting, but adorable. Also since he's three I understand most of his french. 😅
Still mad about seeing the argument that "PC gaming is thriving." It's true, because you can't kill art. But statistically none of the 1000+ games released in a month will pay devs a living salary, because you *can* kill industry. To think this won't eventually hurt players is willfully ignorant.
I stopped reading/watching Rowling's stuff. I don't buy video games from shit people. I have never eaten at Chick-fil-A and never will. I don't read, use, or pay for the NYT. I still lead a rich, full life. If I can do it, you can too. Being an adult with morals means letting some things go.
"But my nostalgia! But my favorite morning word game! But this mid video game! But my sport! But my chicken sandwich!" Hey, real quick, what ARE you willing to give up to not support our oppressors?
Favorite? Lord of the Rings, probably. Not sure what the BEST I've read is, but that wasn't the question. 😄
What is your favorite English-language novel? (Free spaces for Middlemarch, Pride and Prejudice, and Moby Dick -- what else you got?)
