When it comes to signing open letters about academic freedom, “We have to take a principled stand!” doesn’t work if there have been loads of other much more obvious and serious instances of violations of academic freedom to which you said absolutely nothing.

I wonder how many of the academics currently handwringing and signing open letters because a racist and eugenicist is in trouble expressed any support for the UT professor denied tenure without justification or criticized vetting of more and more researchers by the security services in France.
It's a hyper-individualistic view of academic freedom in which the "special boys"do all the junk science they want. While the real core of it is self-regulation and jugment by your peers according to the standards of your discipline. There's a whole social/collective aspect to it as a safeguard!

Je vois passer pas mal de discussions sur "l'IA" et je pense qu'il faut définir ce que l'on entend par IA avant de discuter plus avant, car ce terme finit par avoir une acception très large (et même trop large !) et des domaines d'applications très divers.
