Not my 36-year-old brother texting me to say "remember when you told me as a kid that if I swallowed the littlest bit of toothpaste, I would die, and I worried about it for years??" Man, younger siblings never let anything go.
I had a feeling these two would make for an excellent double-feature about humanity’s relationship with animals and nomadism/pastoralism, particularly in a modern (and specifically post-Communist) world, and I was 100% right. Great, mind-expanding reads for this city gal @songsforhorses.com

There is no good use of generative AI because the technology was built on theft of creative labor. If that position surprises you from an artist whose life's work was scraped and used without permission to train trillion dollar technology, educate yourself. www.michaelwhelan.com/faq/#digital...
Those mountains are older than the concept of trees and bones and you WILL respect them
It's so cute when people on the east coast talk about mountains
Love when my cat meows, I meow back, and he looks at me like "bitch did I ask???"
Something to bear in mind as things get harder, from a 2009 Metafilter post from someone who lives through Sarajevo.

If this trend keeps up, I am going to end up being one of the top 200 smartest people alive just by virtue of reading an academic nonfiction book cover to cover once in a while. Just absolute gold medal brain because everyone else's will be goo.
I’m learning that the people who gamified paragraphs are having trouble reading books. www.axios.com/2026/08/11/r...
slow day in the office so we're starting beef with archaeologists
I would rather find a strange man in my apartment than a house centipede. Truly the most evil of all god's creations.
I have hit 100,000 words in this novel, but what I am most proud of is how close to the end I got before hitting that mark, because my stuff is always much too long! I'd love to keep it under 120k by the end.
Unironically how I feel about writing my books
Just saw a thing where a director talked about taking out sex/nudity because audiences don’t want to see it. Here’s an idea: fuck the audience. I’m the chef & they’ll eat what I serve them and like it. *The audience* knows what they want? Why don’t you let a toddler drive a car next?
As anyone in publishing will tell you, women do not resist reading books by men, but men will often dismiss books by women. This is not a publishing problem or a failure to target men. It's a misogyny problem.
A very happy First Bandcamp Friday While I'm Employed For A Year to me!
I've been super lucky overall, but getting asked "when are you due?" when I was NOT pregnant was fun If dentists count: my childhood dentist implying his Latina patients were sluts, unlike sweet innocent white me
A question from Reddit that I'll answer here: "What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"
Something so weirdly offensive about crashing your trash into the moon. Like, that's our moon. If it belongs to anyone, it belongs to all of us.
Ea-Nasir as a meme is so funny to me, imagine a client sends you a pissy email and as a result, MILLENIA later, future people wielding sorcerous, unfathomable technology use it to clown on your ass
But if you go down the LLM road, you are bound to that path. If the tech bros who own that LLM begin charging thousands of $ a month to use their program, you're facing a major gatekeeper. And yes, once our current AI bubble breaks the subsidized cost of using LLMs is going to skyrocket. 4/
Right now anyone can learn to write or create art. The price of admission is incredibly, super-duper low. Don't have a computer? You can write or draw on paper. Yes, it takes time to learn how to tell good stories or create compelling art, but there is no gatekeeper. 3/
Time to bring back this meme I made a while back. If being against generative AI in the arts is gatekeeping, then I guess I’m a proud gatekeeper.
They have been jackhammering outside my apartment for 3 straight days with such fervor that at this point I can only assume they are digging to China, and I look forward to spelunking down to Beijing for some jianbing and chuanr
Because it apparently needs to be said: I have never fucking used the AI/LLM/chatbot/plagiarism machine and I never fucking will. If you use it, I think you're a bad person.
Was at a boutique cocktail bar and they started playing episodes of Bluey on the wall with a projector, and maybe it was the strong drinks, but we were kinda enthralled ngl
Sprinkling hints of my true self in the Teams chat with my new coworkers like a raptor testing the fences
I love when these police scanner reports contain a complete narrative arc

Lockdown in Hellworld was a very validating read for me. Proof that, yeah, that shit really happened, we all went through that. You wouldn't think you'd need the reminder of what it felt like at the time, but it does help. That shit sucked. Good book though.
I don't plug this book as much because people didn't seem to want to read about Covid while it was still peak Covid but maybe some of you all do need a reminder of what it was actually like as it happened. www.orbooks.com/catalog/lock...
