i guess it’s… good? that the system still functions well enough that when the federal government drums up bullshit charges against a real person in order to appease the narrative desires of the president it can’t actually convict him

BOYHOOD is an achievement of grand proportions because Linklater and co created a world in which we see the characters grow/evolve in real time. We literally witness this on screen, within the story, with the same actors. AND it’s gorgeous storytelling. Anyone saying otherwise is a doughnut.

BOYHOOD is a masterpiece, a quiet magic trick that breaks my heart every time I watch it. I showed it to both of my sons on their 18th birthdays, and those experiences were so emotionally powerful. Linklater is truly our best director about time and how it changes us.

One of the best things someone (I have no idea who, now) said that year was that Birdman was about how hard it is to make art as good as Boyhood.
