Yup. Running for office is a horrible experience. My father wanted to be in politics and public service his entire life. When I was a little kid, he ran for city council and ran a tight race into a runoff (and ultimately lost)... it was a horrible experience for our whole family.

Oh, this book definitely looks like it will be worth picking up. It's cool to see Jurgens and Ordway on the same piece of art.

People who are suddenly deported to countries they haven’t been to for years — or, in some cases, have NEVER been to — are incredibly vulnerable. We are going to be reading stories like this for years. God have mercy on their three little girls.

For me, ever since I took this course, part of my answer is that I have to hold myself back from fully investing in a story that's based on real events, because I can get MORE invested in those stories b/c I think about the real people involved. I have to remind myself it's a dramatization.

From the opposite direction, I took a course in public history in grad school, and the basic throughline there is "yep, popular culture is absolutely going to perpetuate historical inaccuracies, so the question is, what are we going to do about it?"

One part of this problem is that too few people in the US have any real experience trying to build consensus or make informed decisions as part of a large group, and so they mistakenly view systems necessary for coordination and management as a form of corrupt manipulation.
