Songwriter/lo-fi bedroom producer in The Hydrogen Trees/Stolen Flowers Of The Dead https://thehydrogentrees.bandcamp.com/album/secret-arcade Luddite extraordinaire. sometimes I also draw snails and aliens. Scarborough, UK

Written a couple of new songs in the last few days and thought I'd have a go at lyrics for another at this late hour but the best my snot congested brain could muster was rhyming "Lee Mavers" with "packet of Quavers" so I'm calling it a night

#HomeMadeMusic Us and the Enigma Recorded this with my dear friend Brian some years ago. About a year later he made this mix of it, which he first played to me, on headphones, in his old flat in Berlin. I'd recommend hitting the bong/downing a v strong espresso at the 2:00 minute mark… #musicsky

Morning fellow Music Botherers, As it's the weekend I reckon we can let our hair down with today's theme: Post a song of yours best enjoyed on a high. Exactly what kind of 'high' is entirely up to you. All I ask is that you add #HomeMadeMusic and quote this post with it. #musicsky #musiciansky

#HomeMadeMusic *Howzit work?* Every Saturday I announce a theme and you post a fitting song of yours marked with the # above. We listen to each others' tracks, have a chat and a fine time. *How do I keep up?* With this feed: bsky.app/profile/did:... *Who's involved?* All these great cats!

everybody surprised that universities would trumpet their award season connection to a professor they essentially fired really didn't take the lesson from the decades of them trading on radical traditions of protest they tried like hell to crush at the time & have all but succeeded in crushing today

Last RT: I know someone who asked a mate to provide a blurb for his novel, and instead of reading it the mate fed the whole book into ChatGPT and got that to blurb it instead. I had to be very gentle as I explained that meant his book was now in the cloud, his life's work stolen by a alleged friend

not going to put the person on blast, but a) it is simple and correct to completely dismiss the idea that LLMs could be ‘conscious’ b) to take it at all seriously is to collaborate with marketing hype c) to use the example of ‘Black slaves’ in your apologia is frankly extremely offensive

i'm interested how the tech hype spiral progresses from feasible but too-soon promises, to unfeasible sci-fi nonsense, to 'you know what, fuck it, we're gonna cause a doomsday event and kill everyone' like that last step seems counterproductive, but maybe it's the only way to keep turning the dial

I keep trying to think of any historical example where a given technology's PROMOTERS AND TRUE BELIEVERS were like 'we are absolutely going to ruin your fucking life so be prepared like it's the end of the world'

Andrew Curran: Axios is reporting that the top labs are wargaming scenarios for the aftermath of a catastrophic event in the next 6 - 12 months, that some executives now see as being inevitable.

Axios: Top executives at Anthropic, OpenAl and other Al companies are privately gaming out scenarios for a public and political revolt after a catastrophic AI event.
Why it matters: These officials anticipate a large-scale event, most likely a cyberattack, that shuts down access to financial services, internet connectivity, or even power and water.

Edouard Harris: This is our view as well. Relatedly, average people will want to increase their level of personal resilience and preparedness as their resources allow. We will be publishing about this soon.

Nick Farina: Best ways to be prepared? Generators, water, books and DVDs?

Edouard Harris: Power, water, food, sanitation for most part. Parts of this depend on your geo latitude - solar vs propane for eg.

But also: set aside a computer that is not (and ideally has never been) connected to the internet. Buy faraday pouches and tape. Print out essential docs on paper.

I just refunded two clients because working with them was taking a toll on my sanity. I’m trying to raise $300 to offset it so that I can buy groceries & pay my phone bill. If I can get 60 subscribers @ the $5 tier, I can make it happen. My next song, “Hire Brian,” will be posted soon! 🎶❤️ #HelpSky

patreon.com/cspaniels = After 12 years of being a booking agent, I’ve decided to retire & fully recommit to making my own music. I’ve revived my dormant Patreon to offset the $ I was (barely) making as a freelancer, and to hold myself accountable. For $5+ a month, you can have every song I make! ❤️

My core metric is that Vampire On Titus is a far better album than any of those pricks on Reddit have ever made or will ever make. It’s also sold more, for whatever the fuck that’s worth. They can wind their necks in.
