Fyi, you don't have to be a permanent resident to vote, just a resident. Sooooo if you're a resident and hearing this you should strongly consider not voting for TOP as they will be removing benefits you are currently eligible for and not necessarily give you the replacement.
Not giving the UBI to PRs out of the box is WILD. Absolutely wild. For people who don't know, you only have to be a resident (which takes years to get in and of itself) for 2 years to be eligible for permanent residency, and then having to wait 3 more years after that???
It's always telling when people talk about 'men' as a category separate from 'nonbinary and trans people' with no overlap!!
Okay lol
on the evidence of this, no, the trans community does not need this writer
Reading a book by a non-binary writer that says "Men need me more than the trans community". Trans people may be under attack, but spiritually speaking,
interestingly this is effectively the case for UoA. there is one second year geography paper and from what i've seen everything else, including post-grad papers, has been cut.
This is a new level of attempted political indoctrination for Aotearoa. Add to this the context that all elected positions were removed from the teaching council and replaced with ministerial appointees. #NZPol newsroom.co.nz/2026/08/14/c...
have opportunity announced what their plan is for disability allowances and accommodation supplements? because at this stage the UBI seems like a cut to benefits and student allowances with extra support for everyone else.
call me mr jones the way something is happening here but i don't know what it is
I have once again made a meme, this time to illustrate National's official position on coalition negotiations thespinoff.co.nz/politics/31-...
do we know if old growth forests are better carbon sinks than younger forests because we're often considering commercial forestry or is the same true for natural secondary forests
I do not trust the Beatles biopics with portraying Yoko Ono I do not think the Beatles biopics deserve Yoko Ono
having to install a mcafee program to uninstall a mcafee program feels very suspicious to me
"decisions about whether or when minors access transgender medical care should be made by parents, not politicians" actually they should be made by the minors in question, who are human beings. if you don't need parental consent to experience one kind of puberty why should you need it for the other
Why do bash “dead-beat” directors for not being faithful to their source material but we never question if the source has bad vibes? Or if it's just unpleasant to be around?
Some people are calling this gender affirming care as a haha gotcha but this is actually directly in line with a radically anti-transsexual politics because it’s its mirror opposite—propping up the cissexual gender binary through medical intervention.
I am always adrift on both sides of lesbian/bisexual discourse beacause I think that all that matters is what you do and not what you “are”, so sex or a relationship between two women is lesbian and sex or relationship between a man and a woman is straight regardless of identities.
Whoever is in power after the election will inherit these abhorrent military projects & alliances. Te Pāti Māori has explicitly talked of ending them. I hope others follow. #nzpol
📢 New Zealand has joined a project to accelerate artificial intelligence warfighting capabilities that the United States calls "pivotal" and the "foundation" to winning battles.
[politics understander just read the niemoller poem] oh hell yeah thats loads of people before they come for me that will buy loads of time , sick
at the end of the day we live incredibly energy intensive lives to avoid manual and/or tedious work. some of this meaningfully improves our lives but a lot of this doesn't. automating every facet of our lives on a finite planet isn't neutral.
im pretty far on the anti-AI and LLM end of the spectrum, but you have to constantly think critically and reassert your reasons *why* you oppose it, otherwise you end up taking positions like "it's good to manually complete tasks which could be automated and doing avoidable work is virtuous"
every new article about top is like : (heroically) i would like to be in power
getting poorer every day so the government can give money to landlords, tobacco companies and american arms manufacturers
I am actually losing my mind. How is generationally unpopular Chris "policy bonfire" Hipkins still the leader of the Labour Party. How do you not have the common sense to resign when you lose an election that badly? Why has no one in the party actually managed to roll him?
happy pride, shoutout as always to the 1978 gilbert baker pride flag which had pink and turquoise stripes for SEX AND MAGIC AND ART, and in this house we support gay sex and gay magic and gay art
I posted this on twitter, but updating your birth records is so worth it and is probably only going to get more important for us. If you're not sure if you can afford it dm me ❤️ I can at least help a couple of people out who need it.
one of the major clues that social housing tenants haven't in fact won the lotto is that they need social housing
Nicola Willis says "at the moment, people in social housing effectively have won the lotto."
"The lesson was supposed to stick" is a weird way to frame this when literally nobody who pushed this war ever experienced a single consequence for it. Lesson for who, exactly?
In 2003, George W. Bush launched the Iraq War over claims of weapons of mass destruction that didn’t exist. The lesson was supposed to stick. www.dailykos.com/stories/2026...
"The CIA conspired to make me less cool than I was when I was 25" is the most succinct Gen X manifesto I've ever heard
