The teams that deliver consistently don't have fewer specialists. They have more people willing to help outside their usual comfort zone. That's what turns a collection of experts into a real development team. #Agile #SoftwareDevelopment #EngineeringCulture
A useful question during stand-up isn't: "Is this my area?" It's: "What can I do today to help move this forward?" That small shift changes behaviour across the whole team. #Leadership #SoftwareDevelopment
age 16: Computers are amazing! I'm going to do amazing things with computers! age 46: explaining to the fourth person this week why Chat GPT is not a replacement for a functional search engine or the library or friends
Specialists matter. But if every ticket has to wait for one specific person, the whole team becomes slower. The bottleneck isn't the technology. It's the dependency. #EngineeringCulture #Agile
When that happens, something changes. Knowledge spreads. Queues shrink. Finger-pointing fades. Progress speeds up because fewer people are waiting for "the right person" to become available. #Teamwork #SoftwareEngineering
Scientists have finally managed to create the virus featured in the classic sci-fi "Don't create the torment virus".
Breaking news: Scientists in the US have for the first time used artificial intelligence to create viruses unknown in nature, a milestone that promises advances in healthcare but also raises important biosafety and biosecurity concerns. ft.trib.al/Uk6VCRG
I’ve had the privilege of being on the #InfiniteMonkeyCage two or maybe three times. Simply put, it won’t be the same thing without @robinince.bsky.social. And what Robin doesn’t say is that the BBC press release simply eradicates him from the show’s history. Total shit.
The strongest teams I've worked with have specialists. They also have curiosity. Front-end developers investigate API issues. Back-end developers learn the customer journey. QA joins conversations before code is written.

Think about a relay race. Winning isn't about running your section perfectly and dropping the baton. It's about getting the baton across the finish line. Software delivery isn't much different. #SoftwareDevelopment #Leadership
This doesn't mean everyone needs to become an expert in every technology. It means being willing to ask questions, pair with a teammate, learn something new, or help remove the next obstacle. That's how knowledge grows. #EngineeringCulture #Agile
If you can’t think of anything nice to say, I believe there’s a vacancy at The Spectator.
Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.
Good development teams don't think, "My part is done." They think, "Has the customer problem been solved?" That's a very different mindset, and it changes how people work together. #Teamwork #SoftwareDevelopment
The more I think about it, the more I believe that Odysseus is Irish. 1. Went out with his pals and didn't come home for ages 2. Wouldn't take any advice 3. Absolutely loves songs about struggles 4. His name is O'dysseus, for Christ's sake!
I think people believe what they see in movies. Modern data centers bring the lowest number of employees to an area of any kind of business
The ticket moves. The problem doesn't. Users don't care which part of the stack failed. They only know the feature doesn't work. That's the difference between finishing a task and solving a problem. #Agile #Engineering
"That's not my job." It's a phrase that quietly slows more software teams than most technical problems. A developer builds the API but won't look at the UI. Another updates the UI but won't check the database. Someone else says testing belongs to QA. #Agile #SoftwareDevelopment
The goal isn't estimation accuracy The goal isn't to produce perfect estimates. The goal is to make good delivery decisions. If better information becomes available, use it. That's agility. #AgileCoaching #SoftwareDevelopment
Forecasts evolve Sprint planning creates a forecast, not a fixed prediction. Every day the team knows a little more than they did yesterday. Good teams adjust their plans based on reality, not wishful thinking. #SprintPlanning #Agile
Commitment is behaviour A committed team: • collaborates • raises risks early • asks for help • adapts when needed • focuses on the Sprint Goal Commitment isn't blindly delivering an outdated estimate despite new evidence. #ScrumValues #Agile

“What will the Lovell Telescope discover/enable 20 yrs from now? I can’t tell you, and that’s the point. It will either be something extraordinary that none of us can yet predict, or we will defund it and leave Cheshire with a rusting monument to unfulfilled potential and discoveries never made.” 🔭🧪
www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026... There's a strong parallel with software delivery. The original estimate isn't a promise that reality must obey.
