i've been seeing this critique a lot and i uh found the film pretty imbued with the threat of sexual violence without ever having to show it explicitly on screen. the women screaming, circe, the end, both scenes at temples of athena, the whole room of suitors as wolves barely restrained.
BeijingPalmer@beijingpalmer.bsky.social · 2d agoanother Odyssey point: I think the film's own themes would have been reinforced by more emphasis on *sexual* violence committed by the Greeks, which we only really see referenced in the scene with Circe. This is something very hard to do well but which has plenty of classical reference points.
I thought the Jacob Batalon “CEO of sex” thing was kinda dumb and then I said it out loud one time and it instantly won me over. It is incredibly fun to casually refer to a guy as “the CEO of sex”
Finally felt like I had things stabilized at work yesterday and then today I came in to a bunch of new problems. Got paid this morning and then bills cut me down to a couple hundred dollars to make it through the next two weeks with. Really need an upswing

Surely there is some mistake! There's no way this tax applies to me, a retired diplomat who lives in Paris who spent millions of dollars renovating the 12 million dollar apartment I never intended to live in. There must be some mistake

a reason that Stevens lost and other AIPAC candidates are losing despite the huge infusions of money is that Dem voters don't want to vote for a candidate who is funded by the same org who will immediately turn around and fund the Republicans
