Mark Histed@markhisted.org · 2d agoScientist here: It is widely known inside science that this—top-down imposition of a research agenda—leads to mostly rote, boring, non-innovative work. Building an institute to do discovery science is hard: you hire young people, put them together, hope synergies arise and ideas fall out.

I cannot urge you all enough to KEEP TALKING ABOUT BOOKS. I know it's easier to talk up someone else's book, but this also means you, the shy author.

Two of my friends are camping in the Midwest this weekend, and my hometown is having its annual festival. Definitely struggling to be in the present moment and not elsewhere in my mind, especially when the present moment means sitting through a soccer game in 100°F+.
Well worth a read. Kelton’s experience with and nuanced approach to AI-assisted coding largely mirrors my own. A huge part of me that feels like the advent of the latest generation of AI coding agents is exactly the “spare brain” my single ADHD-addled one has been looking for for so long.
Kelton Halbert@stormscale.io · 6d agoI’ve been trying to formulate opinions about this for a while. I still don’t know how to communicate what I am experiencing, thinking, & feeling. Lot’s of nuance. The truth is LLM coding tools are too efficient & effective to be ignored anymore. Yes they’re flawed, but so is human intelligence.
9/11 was a travesty. However it’s interesting to constantly hear “Never Forget” about 9/11 when we constantly hear get over it about the Transatlantic Slave Trade, Jim Crow Laws, and KKK lynchings.
