We all have moments where the right opportunity at the right time would cause us to make a poor choice. So when you're designing a system, part of your job is building it to ensure those opportunities are rare, and known, and watched for. Don't rely on people to be perfect in the moment.

Plate tectonics itself only became the accepted theory in *1965* Your parents didn't know that the Appalachians include the Scottish Highlands.

The Appalachians are a billion years, two supercontinents, and 4 orogenic periods old. They’ve been eroding since 200 million years before the Rockies formed. They are the same range as the Scottish highlands, Scandinavian Mountains, and Atlas Mountains. The caves predate bones.

Mine is the Redditor who said that all cats hate to be touched by humans and what we interpret as affection and pleasure is actually an expression of their trauma.
I've talked about the Sameer Project before—an excellent life-saving on-the-ground initiative in Gaza. Since April 2024, they've distributed nearly a quarter of a million meals alone (plus water, medical care, and shelter). But funding has dropped so much that they'll have to shut down without help.

It doesn’t seem to me that it’s like drugs or alcohol, but it DOES seem to me like a combination of gambling addiction and being in a very toxic/manipulative/controlling “friendship” with a swindler. I think there needs to be social judgment, but also compassion.
