Academician. Friend of puppies.

Student journalists have been heroes over the past ten years and the fact that we have allowed the world to reach a state where hardly any of them will be able to serve communities as journalists after they graduate is something we should all feel shame about

I think it’s fair to say that the student journalists at Cornell are braver than the news networks who just gave up on their WH pool ban even though CNN is still being denied access. www.cornellsun.com/article/2026...

Research units from across government have been gutted. More than 10,000 PhDs have left government. For example the research arm of the Department of Education lost 90% of their staff and the research office for the Secretary of Health and Human Services lost an estimated 60% of their staff.

Just got a really weird mass-email from the new Chancellor of Syracuse University. What's especially weird about it, is that I have never had any affiliation with SU whatsoever, beyond a bunch of rejected job applications (I presume that's how they had my email).

New Syracuse Chancellor marks his territory.

Fun detail about this article: I didn't notice until it was published, but writing about AI really changed the citation structure of my bibliography. Simply put, most of my references were super-recent. One-quarter came in the first quarter of 2026 alone. Over 50% since 2025.

Citations over time.

New article in @pnas.org: We all know ChatGPT loves to delve, bolster, leverage, encompass, showcase, underscore, et cetera. I analyzed full text of 7.3 million journal articles published 2020-2025, hunting for 228 words that spiked after ChatGPT launched in late 2022. 🧵⬇️
