Minneapolis City Council President. He/Him

This was in the context of why I voted in support of Workers Drive Minneapolis, our autonomous vehicles regulations ordinance. We can’t just keep rolling over for Big Tech and not learn from what’s happened with rideshare, social media, & AI. Read more ⬇️ content.govdelivery.com/bulletins/gd...

This weekend I had the honor of speaking at the Stonewall Sports 10th anniversary gala. I love riding my bike past Northeast Park & seeing it filled with Stonewall’s kickball league. Our LGBTQIA+ community living authentically and experiencing joy in our parks is the perfect antithesis to fascism.

Tonight at our Board of Estimate & Taxation meeting we deadlocked on deciding the maximum levy for the City and the Parks. I voted in full support of the park board’s levy request and the city’s request throughout every single amendment brought forward, but we could not find consensus on that.

I just got done speaking to 500 minneapolis families from across the city on why I support delaying the MPS closure plan. After COVID, the CDD, and Operation Metro Surge our students need stability. This plan is rushed & still leaves many questions about the district’s financial future unanswered.

MPD overages were hidden from the public, hidden from the city council. Now other departments face cuts. Residents suffer unsustainable property tax increases. Fact that we are here is a "failure of government and a failure of democracy."

Payne: Other city departments manage within their budget. MPD "lacks the basic administrative competency... Perhaps we need to treat this department differently."

Council President Payne: "we've politicized this conversation to the point that now it has become toxic to provide fiscal oversight of this department, as though you are some unhinged person detached from reality for daring to question how much money is spent on policing."

Every year at the Waite Park Fall Festival I table with a budget activity where people can vote on what I should prioritize for the budget. Each person gets 3 beads they can put in any of the jars as they see fit (all 3 in 1 jar, 1 in 3 different jars, etc.). Here are the results we got on Saturday.

Waite park fall festival

Reverse cuts to climate action 69
Reverse cuts to neighborhood funding 58
Reverse cuts to unarmed public safety 53
