Racist riots outside the homes of people seeking asylum for three nights in a row and Andy Burnham has nothing to say about it.
How Andy Burnham risks repeating exactly the same failure to tackle the far-right made by Keir Starmer www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/illegitima...
i'd recommend people read the response from an LGBTQ+ cancer charity to last year's EHRC proposed guidance - been thinking a lot about this particular section ever since i first read it (full response here outpatients.org.uk/2025/06/26/e...)
Yvette Cooper confirming that NHS guidance is coming forth shortly banning trans people from single sex wards. She waffles about ‘alternative provision’ but let’s be realistic here, this will massively massively disadvantage trans people’s care. Fuck Andy Burnham
I would like to see more companies admit this - being a public company no longer means running a successful, thriving business. It strictly means delivering growth to investors, every single quarter, who do not care at all about the product the company sells or the people who produce it.
Savage.
"Pronouns used to be a funny joke, Hank. Until the government tried to tell me I couldn't use them anymore. So now I'm adamant about making sure trans people are gendered right. Not for their sake. But because I'll be damned if the US government is going to tell me what words I can and can't use."
The EHRC guidance does not apply to workplaces, and trans people are not criminalised for using any toilet in the UK. But the whole point of this - as with Section 28 back in the 1980s - is to intimidate people. Don't give into that fear.
Just a reminder that: - this isn't for workplaces and if your work is trying to implement it scare them over discrimination claims - the onus is on the service provider, not the service user to comply - the code *itself* says enforcement of toilet facilities is unworkable and low priority

Im a more or less professional discourser! I love to discourse! But the first rule of doing cool shit club is you don't talk about doing cool shit, especially online. If you find this hard just do what I do: tell yourself you're saving it for the memoir lmao
Should be pinned to the top of every single intercommunity argument about tactics. In particular: the people doing the kind of direct action work that other people like to fantasise about online are ABSOLUTELY not talking about it online, are you high? Doing the work > masturbatory discourse

One final take: The people doing the hard yards of effective work, whether grassroots activism, legal work or lobbying, do not talk much on here about it. Because it’s difficult, exhausting interpretations are too bad faith, and the other side can see your posts. Bluesky is not the real world.
And Rosa Fragorapti on lyre here: youtube.com/shorts/paetP... Would kill to get more ancient instruments and techniques back into wider circulation

The best part of the Siren legend - lovely thread
In Homer’s epic, it wasn’t just the song of the Sirens that lured men to their doom, but the temptation of their words. They tempt the wily Odysseus with all the knowledge of the world, and particularly foreknowledge. 😱 🤯 🏺 3/ #ancientbluesky Left, 📸 me
Cannot recommend the London Loop walk enough. 14 km today.
I wish there was a single politician willing to say we need more immigrants here in the UK, immigration is a fundamental freedom and good in-itself, and we should accept all migrants as new neighbours and fellow children of god, as the nominal official religion of this country supposedly preaches
"Sinking in Polls, Farage Plans Week of Attacks on Immigration" Reform plan to make next week Immigration Week It could finally be the moment for broadcast media to notice the > 75% drop in net migration since 2024. There is also a 42% drop in boat crossings
christ if that’s not a metaphor for our times
Genuinely think that everyone working in trans rights in the UK needs to read this book - TERF Wars also!
Just seen @brisunipress.bsky.social have a mega sale on until the end of July - i.e. tomorrow(!) Which means you still have time to get 50% off my 2018 book Understanding Trans Health!
And I see this from people working in pretty much every industry imaginable, which also doesn’t seem like a good sign
it’s never a great sign for your society when all the competent people who believe in doing a good job for the sake of it conclude that they’re actively being punished for these qualities, while malignantly stupid criminals are making bank
looking at the headlines and reflecting once again on how all the smart, hard-working, honest people I know feel like they’re going at least a little insane in our era of total Stupid Immoral Asshole ascendancy
your apartment, the sport of basketball, and the Republic of Korea are all social constructs. mere recognition of this fact does not actually make the question of whether you are standing in your own apartment, playing basketball, or a Korean national up in the air until settled by op ed editors

It's not going to happen, it's not happening, it's happened now so there's nothing we can do. The three tenses of catastrophe in British English.
2026 and we are STILL having to endure this crass stupidity.
Bluesky, help me out - an old manuscript where a young person draws their (teacher?) as a (wolf?) monster? Some kind of glorious doodle from history? Not Onfim's drawings of himself as a glorious monster - my brain wants to say that this is Old or Middle English? Weird little guys? Thank you!
In any other disaster, you cleave to your people. Your family, your loved ones, your community. You come together, physically, and you have each other when all else is lost. Plagues/pandemics require the exact opposite, and it is uniquely traumatizing.
