A guy in my train has his laptop out; is eating a salad; and is tying his tie and putting on a sport coat, all at the same time. Any one of these is a high wire act, and arguably somewhat line-stepping. But to attempt all three at the same time — you can’t help but root for the guy.

I lock my bike to a NYC parking sign probably 15 times a week, every week of the year. Hundreds and hundreds of times. Yet every, like, 26th time, I just completely fuck it up and it turns into the hardest task I've ever encountered in my life.

The Democratic Party shenanigans with the Alaska ballot are sketchy as hell and it’s kind of amazing to see people not be able to just acknowledge that, despite all the other caveats and context.

It’s worth remembering the insane Islamophobia after 9/11. For years, any Muslim on TV (or any brown person honestly) had to spend five mins disavowing every awful thing any other Muslim had done. That said, what we’ve seen this past week in Michigan? Holy shit, absolutely shameful.

A graph from Vox titled "Halloween is the deadliest day of the year for child pedestrians" with a graph showing a huge spike at October 31.

I probably missed a bunch of discourse, but have we processed that Angela Duckworth basically completely reversed course on the whole grit thing? Whoops!

It’s so strange, I thought You Can See Everything was a masterpiece, so dense, and yet I’ve had zero desire to talk about it or read any analysis or anything. Just kinda sitting with it. 1/2

laughing because when Bull Connor brought out the fire hoses in Birmingham one of the first people the civil rights movement sent out there to get blasted in front of god and the media and cameras was literally an old blind man

"The Jews who went to Mississippi didn't take selfies and post tweets." Okay, but honestly, if tweets had been a thing in 1961, many of them probably would have done.

Tweet from David Friedman: "The Jews who went to Mississippi didn’t take selfies and post tweets of performative stunts to gain notoriety and virtue signal. They actually put their lives at risk to protect truly oppressed people. Comparing the two just highlights how detached you are from reality."
