bioRxiv/medRxiv have been dealing with endless bot attacks recently (plus usual DDOS stuff, etc). Tricky to address without impacting genuine users - many of you affected. Apologies. We're working with our hosting service on solutions & think we're getting there [he shouts in his Red Queen costume].

🐙 Octopuses appear to have evolved a ribosomal innovation that increases protein translation fidelity. *suggests that evolution can tune core components of the proteostasis machinery, extending adaptation beyond gene regulation www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Evolution of a core ribosomal innovation in octopus

Much of biology focuses on how genetic changes mediate new functions, but less attention is given to adaptations in other steps of the central dogma. Octopuses exhibit complex nervous systems and soph...

I was back home in 🇰🇷 for the past couple of weeks for a nice break. I enjoyed the scenery, the food, and meeting family and friends. I'm back in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 now, enjoying my cozy home, refreshed to be back at work and catching up with colleagues and friends. I feel very lucky to have two homes!

#PlantScienceClassics #6: The T-DNA. In a 1977 paper, Mary-Dell Chilton & colleagues identify the Transferred DNA (T-DNA), the bit of DNA that Agrobacterium tumefaciens inserts into the plant genome, to kick off the race toward the first transgenic plant. doi.org/10.1016/0092...

Just presented at #ICAR2026 in Singapore: What if plants use nanoscale vibrations to communicate cell wall states? Exciting to share our latest thinking and hear what the community makes of it 🌱. Thanks to the organisers for the opportunity!

Behind her, the slide shows a schematic titled “Towards a 4D map of wall mechanochemical states”, combining Brillouin microscopy (stiffness), OPTIR (composition), and RNAseq to build a spatially resolved picture of cell wall states in Arabidopsis roots.

Excited to share our new @ThePlantCell Perspective on training plant scientists in the era of #GenAI 🌱🤖 A practical framework for research, teaching & mentorship across career stages. Open access + actionable ideas—please share! "Read the article" (academic.oup.com/plcell/artic...)
