It’s wild you’re expected to celebrate SCOTUS not allowing the president to dismantle a voting method used by tens of millions at the 11th hour — and also, at the same time, it absolutely is a big deal and couldn’t be taken for granted.

W/o getting drawn into the "seriously or literally" / "it'll never happen" trap, we need to stomp *hard* on the continuing effort to undermine Article 1 power of the purse by saying that this or that revenue stream makes something outside the normal budget process. 1/ www.nbcnews.com/business/eco...

Lutnick says Trump’s $5,000 checks for Americans wouldn’t rely on taxpayer funds

A top White House official suggested Congress would use a budget process to fund them. Vice President JD Vance had said tariff revenues.

A DHS memo we obtained lays out a Trump admin plan to sidestep a federal law that restricts the use of the military for domestic policing. It raises concerns about the admin’s plans to deploy troops during the 2026 election. More in our newsletter: americanoversight.org/newsletter/d...

As bad as Monday's #SCOTUS ruling in the ballroom case was, it also offers some broader lessons about Chief Justice Roberts; Justice Barrett; how the Court processes emergency applications; and whether criticism of the Court for not explaining itself in Trump cases has hit home. Me in "One First":

Bonus 247: Four Lessons from the Ballroom Ruling

The Court’s latest misadventure offers important lessons about two justices, the Court’s procedures, and its responsiveness to certain types of criticism.

Turns out Apple Maps lets you leave a report if something on its map is wrong and needs correction. So I submitted a report about Lake Ontario. Would be a shame if lots of people flood the service with similar reports.

Thanks, Cristian!
You're making Maps better for everyone! We'll let you know when we've reviewed your report.

"Standing" is a sufficiently malleable doctrine that the patent illegality of the government action should matter in close cases.

#BREAKING: By a 5-4 vote (with Chief Justice Roberts joining the three Democratic appointees in dissent), #SCOTUS grants a stay pending appeal in the ballroom case, clearing the way for Trump to continue building the ballroom indefinitely while the litigation proceeds.

Based on this decision, Trump could demolish the White House and replace it with a Trump Casino & Resort and no one could stop him as long as he could find a government official willing to chant the magic words "national security"
