UK govts don't lack resources to improve the quality of life. Even if it does not embrace modern monetary theory, borrow, or hike taxes, it can harvest billions by eliminating tax, legal and fiscal policy anomalies. Some suggestions are in the linked article. Poverty is a political choice.

Here’s how the chancellor can raise the billions needed to improve the quality of life of millions

The UK government ceasing automatically to support almost anything the government of Israel does is a major shift. The next step should be to rescind the ban on #PalestineAction, to stop treating protesters as terrorists, and to acknowledge that those seeking to disrupt a genocide may have a point.

So pleased to see @zackpolanski.bsky.social demanding the Government’s suppressed then redacted report on ecosystem collapse be published in full. People can’t prepare for what they don’t know - concealing this report is unforgivable #WildSummit

Green leader says ministers must stop ‘hiding the truth’ about threat to UK security from climate and nature crisis

I'm delighted that the real boss of our house, Bella, has been crowned Purr Minister of the UK. We are a nation of animal lovers, and I am proud to play a leading role in championing animal issues in Parliament. Animal protection isn’t a side issue.

We need a government that will be upfront with the public, not parrot fossil fuel talking points. A Prime Minister who will protect our national security and long-term prosperity. He must say NO to more drilling in the North Sea.

North Sea oil and gas is a test of leadership for Labour and they’re already failing

This summer we reached an inflection point. From now on, people living in the UK will only become more familiar with the real-world consequences of...

Vote for George Parkes in the Ware Christchurch by-election on Thursday 24th September. George will join a hardworking team that is delivering real results for Ware. Artwork here by local artist Ana Olarou who also decorated benches along the tow path between Ware and Hertford.

"Big disappointment" is an understatement. This is criminal. Breaks every UK environmental commitment, in a year when we've seen a tiny glimpse of what the disruption will be from climate catastrophe. Supporters of such schemes are way out of touch with what's needed to undo 200 years of emissions.

If Andy Burnham goes ahead with this, the honeymoon is over. The first big disappointment in him. #r4today #Jackdaw

Climate breakdown is a national security threat. Nature loss puts our food, water, health, economy and stability at risk. The Government no longer has the luxury of time. We need urgent action and a dedicated Climate Protection Unit. We need a Number 10 for the future.

At the Cambridgeshire County Council Highways &Transport Committee yesterday we heard a petition about safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists at a junction #cambridge . I asked about the doubts the petitioner had about a previous safety audit. www.cambridgeindependent.co.uk/news/calls-t...

Public CONTROL is not public OWNERSHIP Andy Burnham's bus reforms in Manchester were good, but they show that with public control, shareholders still take out profits Our buses, water and other public services should be run in public ownership - not public control

GRaphic that highlights four models of bus ownership in the UK from full privatisation to the Manchester model where buses are privately owned but the market is regulated, to the Reading model where the buses are publicly owned but the market is deregulated, and lastly to We Own It's proposed model where the buses are publicly owned and the market is regulated

Bbc #Wato (Jonny Dimond) just did a whole item on the Thames barrier needing replacing early… without once mentioning the >reason< why!: ie Without mentioning human caused climate chaos / sea-level rise. In the middle of this summer of extreme climate impacts, that’s a stunning fail. Pse repost.

Last week I was honoured to be Mayor of Cambridge, Maria Cleminson's consort on the Mayor's Day out to Great Yarmouth. We met up with Great Yarmouth Mayor Jade Martin and John Woodcock who started the Mayor's Day Out 41 years ago! It's such a great way to bring residents together. #Cambridge

Interviewed by That’s TV Cambridgeshire about Adam’s Road Cyclestreet Listening to residents, I am championing 3 priorities for where the money should be going to make Cambridge cycle safer: 1) resurfacing to tackle potholes 2) proper LTN1/20 bike lanes 3) 20mph speed limit across Cambridge

The UK has rightly imposed sanctions on countries like Russia. International law must be applied consistently. That’s why the Government must also impose sanctions on the Israeli Government's illegal settlements in Palestinian territory.
