A simple fix would be to merge the requirements that NDOT has for construction projects with special events. As of now, it doesn’t appear to be the case (or at least the language on the pages doesn’t indicate that)

There are places we can cut the budget in this city. Vision Zero is not one of them. Discussion starts around 14:10: nashville.citycast.fm

I also learned this evening that the city has moved $8 million in surplus dollars that had been allocated for NDOT/Vision Zero to elsewhere. Currently Vision Zero has ~$12 million remaining, with $5 million being allocated to Gallatin/Main. Projects with completed engineering will go unfunded.

The entire point of Connect Downtown was to take urgent action to "aggressively advance a safe and connected active transportation network that supports people of all ages and abilities.” So why are we building less than half of the planned mobility lanes in more than twice the time?

NES recently updated its tree policy. It ignores species of tree & clear cuts straight down to the ground. This isn’t scientific or based on anything but vibes. The only thing this policy is consistent with is the report’s findings that NES failed to have, execute, & communicate any sensical plan.

After a year plus of advocating I am excited to hear neighborhood feedback on this pedestrian safety project including the narrowing/closing of a road, better bike infrastructure and safer pedestrian crossing.
VZAC Lindsey asks if NDOT has any internal Tactical Urbanism project capabilities to react to needs at fatal crash locations, for example. She says it seems like there are lessons that NDOT can learn from these designs to apply to their own quick builds. Couldn't agree more!
Today the UT Public Policy Institute recognized Sgt. Mike Hotz, Dir. Benton McDonough, me!, Gibson Gives, and representatives from both Chattanooga and Knoxville for "Best Project" - the installation of ONEBoxes and naloxone in entertainment, sports and educational facilities across the state. 🦞
