Last week I attended the 6th 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 #ISMB2026 that was organised as part of SynSci — Synergy for Science 2026 and did some #Sketchnotes along the way; I plan to add the missing ones with time… bio-mat-sketches-mor.blogspot.com/2026/07/2026...

Multi-ciliated cells drive many key events, including, for example, expelling pathogens and debris from our lung airways. @raghavan-thiaga.bsky.social Provides a great introduction to the cell biology behind this, and the many unanswered questions. Plus lovely images!! Check it out. 🧪

From single-celled organisms to ciliated epithelia in metazoans, precise positioning of basal bodies (BBs), which anchor motile cilia, is essential for generating fluid flows. Here, I, @raghavan-thiaga.bsky.social, will take you on a brief tour of how cells build this spatial organization.

I have spent a long time resisting the use of AI in my everyday task, let alone in the process of scientific production (text, figures, ideas) which is anyway the bit of this weird profession that I enjoy the most. In the ensuing mini-rant, echoing Aydan’s thoughts, I want to highlight few things…

I have been thinking since yesterday about why I find the 1% thing so, so disturbing. It's a visceral reaction of 'just no', which goes beyond the general yuck towards the enshittification of/via AI. I have finally put my finger on it: it is the feeling you get when

1/9 A few thoughts and personal opinions on the use of AI in research evaluation. I suspect many of these changes may be inevitable, so the real question may not be whether this will happen, but how we shape it responsibly 🧵

How does the plasma #membrane preserve its #lipid identity under stress? The Baskin and Balla labs report a homeostatic circuit linking PI4P, phosphatidylserine, RhoB, and phospholipase D-driven phosphatidic acid. hubs.la/Q04mQjrC0

Phosphatidylserine and RhoB connect PI4P and PA metabolism to maintain plasma membrane identity

Plasma membrane identity depends on tight control of anionic lipid composition, but how cells sense and correct imbalances remains poorly understood. Huang
