One of the more subtle "nothing's changed in 42 years" aspects of A Mind Forever Voyaging: now, as then, you still need to give that "in Celsius" disclaimer to an American player: “Here are tomorrow’s high temperatures, in Celsius, for the major metros: [...]"

Oh, hello! I was looking up McClure’s “How to Design Adventure Games“ tome that you mentioned in this episode when I saw some of his other works, including a series of books covering Speccy Adventure Games in ‘82-85, ‘86-87 and ‘88-90 Books on adventure games when I have a Next3 coming (soon?! 😜) 🤗

In which I play the earliest adventure game explicitly based on Sherlock Holmes, giving the history of both who wrote the game and how it got written. It was coded based on an unusual system where you can edit from within the game. bluerenga.blog/2026/08/01/s...

Deathship / Werewolf (1983)

It was remembered as a “joke” computer, with its 22 by 23 character screen and 3.5Kb of RAM. Revisionists forgot that at the time there was nothing else, and that within the confines of…

I was one of the first 10 Infocom employees. If you called for hints, you probably spoke with me. And not long after, I spoke with your parents; when the phone bill arrived. That’s right, we all paid by the minute for calls outside our local area. Hope you & your 9 year-old enjoy the adventure.

This is the matchbook that came in Infocom's _Witness_ package. (My original copy, saved all these years!) What the heck is the fake Chinese "prosperity" symbol on the matchbook front? Anybody know? Is that trying to hide the letters "SA”? Or maybe “CA" or “EA”? Why?

A matchbook from “The Brass Lantern” (a fictional Chinese restaurant in 1938 California). The phone number “ADeline 1308” is printed on it, and “Chandler 1729” is hand-written inside.
