My people grant names based on where we are sent, so here I am upon Earth, the magnificent paradise: Terra Augustus Utopia! But you can call me Tau. Poet, programmer, performer. https://blog.bovid.space

I am too ancient to have to explain to you why it grosses me out that my profession now hinges on dudes selling subscriptions to something they love marketing as a boxed person who can’t say no.

A systematic, critical understanding of history, especially the long history of technically skilled people either being used by elites or being blinded by their own high modernist ideology to do incredible harm, should in my opinion be a requirement of any technocratic profession

Am I missing something here? In what universe would an engineering student ever study history?! Do many history students study engineering?! I *enjoyed* history at school, and I was *good* at it. But no way would I ever have studied it at university.

a lot of white queers don't understand what whiteness is, and that makes much of their interactions with queer folk of color suck, so I'll explain a little. The two facets of whiteness that are most important in this context are that it is a social and legal exemption from racial oppression.

This is exactly the thing. Trans rights are worth defending because trans people are worth defending and, also, simultaneously, at the same time, the very basic statistical truth is that the overwhelming majority of people harmed by mandated & enforced gender norms are not going to be trans.

I hate doing the "a rollback of trans rights is the gateway for a rollback of women's rights" thing because trans rights are human rights in and of themselves, whatever the impact on cis women. But goddamn I wish more cis women had a sense of history and self preservation.
