"Neologism is a psychiatric syndrome where a person creates completely invented words or phrases that sound logical to them, but mean nothing to others." And that's a bad thing? I thought this is was part of being a science fiction writer!

NEW: I spoke with current and former EA employees to understand how the latest layoff round played out and the realities of daily life at the U.S. publisher. The short version? EA is controlled by an executive class that "cannot fail, only be failed." Workers, then, will always pay the price.

"I don't want to work at this place anymore:" EA workers decry mismanagement and corporate greed after mass layoffs Current and former EA employees paint a bleak picture of daily life at one of the video game industry's most prominent publishers

Headline noticed about Anthropic, an impending IPO and a Wall Street bonanza that is thought to enable a meteoric rise in the company's value ($2 trillion is mentioned...) and all I can say is, time for another lawsuit. Those from whom it stole can claim MILLIONS of that. *we made you, Anthropic. *

GenAI is unethical across many axes including environmental, political, and because the industry is based on mass theft from authors and other creatives. It's also incredibly reputationally damaging for people who are being accused of its use. I don't think any publisher has the right to tarnish me.

1. Shaming works. 2. The folks behind that "AI" coup aren't merely sellouts, they're spineless sellouts at that. 3. This isn't over until every last person who had signed off on that charter permanently steps down. They've shown their true colours.

The Society of Authors has withdrawn from the ill-conceived concession to the dark side that was the "ethical GenAI" charter because of the mass and vocal outrage of authors. Publishers need to be made afraid of this level of anger too.
