Over the past 10 years I’ve work with higher education institutions, companies, and physical and mental health teams across the country, delivering training on neurodiversity. In the past year, however, something has changed. 1/? 🧵#TheADHDMyth

As of Cabinet yesterday, one now needs the ability to communicate in order to be considered a citizen. Yet in the first three months of 2026, not a single child in ten counties was given a plan on how the State would deliver them with speech and language therapy. This week’s column @thejournal.ie:

Gavan Reilly: Six months by law. 24.3 months in reality. Ireland's disability numbers don't add up

The eye-watering numbers of children waiting for Assessment of Need in this country expose a broken system offering little hope to families.

“When I get sick and I can't afford medicine, what are the holistic and low-cost alternatives that I can turn to because I know that I can't afford to see a doctor?” First, holistic medicine is mostly a luxury good, not a function of poverty.

Looking for book and graphic novel suggestions for a 14-year-old who: A) Loves the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels and books like World War Z & Project Hail Mary. B) Isn't into superheroes/harry potter/fantasy (working on getting him into Pratchett).

Fun fact: the Emergency didn't technically end until 1976, when the government wanted to declare a new emergency because of the Troubles (another euphemism) and discovered the never formally ended the old one. So the Dáil had to vote to end the emergency, then immediately declare a new emergency.

One area where a substantial amount of really good autism research has been done is on the question of *what autism research ought to get done*. They've systematically asked autistic people and others with a reason to care, and keep coming back with the same answers. 🧵⬇️... bsky.app/profile/oolo...

It is extremely galling that research on causes of autism has received far, FAR more funding than any other area. "The three least important topics were genetics or biological aspects of autism, autism treatments/interventions and causes of autism. " pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38311602/#:h...

Wow. As someone who was diagnosed (after extensive evaluation and testing) with ADHD last year at age 60, I can say that it and treatment changed my life dramatically for the better. It also explained the challenges I faced through life from childhood. It’s a very real thing.

arday was being used by these institutions as a symbol of their own goodness, and then he was used in turn by right-wing opportunists who wanted to smear them. he wasn't entirely a victim, of course, but he also wasn't the only one being dishonest.

The only conversation worth having is how Black people are overpoliced & over-punished & held to different standards in all aspects of life. That there is an outrage when Black people transgress that isn’t there when their non-Black counterparts do.

There’s growing discourse around the “overdiagnosis” of Autism and ADHD—particularly in adults. Critics say these diagnoses are now being handed out too easily, "its all gone too far", even framing them as trendy. But this view misses something fundamental. 1/24

But I think some part of it is that isolation can cause is to lose community and continuity of ability to recognise each other and the things Ruth identifies about our trade offs, demanding rights means becoming visible, which means being vulnerable to backlash... It's all tough but we fight anyway.

Excited to share that our Women of the Borderlands archive is now available. It's the 1st to preserve the voices of women and the gendered complexities of life in and around the UK/Irish borderlands. We are so grateful to our research participants and the IQDA for making this happen.

Noticing how tech in many ways increases friction of everyday life rather than relieving it. Example: I’m in a coffee chain that has prohibitive double tier pricing. Huge palaver ahead of me in the queue as a staff helps an elderly woman figure out the app. Ultimately driven by profit not utility

This week’s edition is about hare coursing, data centres, the Occupied Territories Bill, and how we’re prepared to build our economy around such pernicious things… and we don’t even get a good economy out of it.

“This is without even getting into the weeds of what our doubling down on data centres means for household electricity costs in Ireland (currently the highest in Europe) or the global effects on climate change (it's hot out, in case you haven't noticed). Nobody is disputing that data centres are important for the way the current world order is operating. The issue is that the current world order fucking sucks, man.”

Listening to a lady on Morning Ireland talking about getting a special card for people with medical conditions to get access to businesses toilets. Sorry but what are we paying taxes for? This is an extremely basic state responsibility. Where are the public toilets?
