For the first time, Ireland generated more electricity from renewable sources than fossil fuels in the first half of the year 🍃 The chart below makes the trend clear. Will 2026 be the first year with majority clean energy? We at Green Collective hope to be the first to report it!

A bar chart of electricity generation on the island of Ireland for June months between 2019 and 2026, inclusive. Each year has two bars: a green one for renewable generation, and a grey one for fossil fuels.

Footnote reads: All-island figures. Renewables comprise wind, hydro, solar, and biomass. Fossil fuels comprise coal, gas, oil, and waste-to-energy. Source: EirGrid, SEMOA treemap of the electricity mix on the island of Ireland with the following fuel types: battery, pumped storage, biomass, hydro, solar, wind, oil, gas, and waste-to-energy. Larger sources are annotated with the GWh and percentage of total generation that source comprised.

Footnote reads: All-island figures. Excludes rooftop solar. Source: EirGrid, SEMO

We too easily skipped over the part of the Ceuta story where thousands of young people were manipulated into risking or losing their lives for a lie; to orchestrate images that then led the news agenda for the weekend, and kneejerk reactions from EU Govs And the Irish failures that let this happen

If you were confused about what happened in Ceuta last week read this piece by @lizcarolan.com who's looking at how it blew up online and who's behind it... www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm...

Happened to hear the Lord Mayor of Dublin talking about e-scooters on Radio 1. He said that people in social housing should be banned from using one! WTF? He wasn't put off when told that this was discrimination. He just doubled down muttering about anti social behaviour! #Ireland #SpéirGhorm

That harm to women and girls in general is not taken seriously, combined with multiple high-profile men continuing to get passes based on power, talent, or activism with other causes, creates a very worrying landscape for women. Tolerance is still way too high. It needs to start actually mattering.
