Lily Allen’s bro and his mates beat the shit out of him. Why? Surprise, unfamiliar scenario, numbers advantage, all that shit. There’s no martial art that makes you unbeatable.

the "eat out to help out" thing -- the fact that you couldn't get the discount if you got takeaway, which helps the business the exact same amount without risking anyone's life -- was like an existential unmooring thing for me. a time when i fully realised i live at the whim of capricious idiots

words that surprisingly come into english in/around the 1500s: information, refrigerate these words are more than 100 years older than the word tea is (sorry for my "tea </> england" obsession)
any essay that is in extensive dialogue with Benabou's work is a must-read. this one is worth returning to again and again. "The articulation of the norm is the ultimate violation because it is articulation that both opens new possibilities and makes meaning out of the trangressive act."

The thing about this is - the fact that this is even a goal for them makes it clear that SM are flat out just in the business of trying to humiliate a social minority. They just hate trans people, there's not more to their campaign than animus.
