For my birthday on Thursday, my brother and SIL brought over crave and ice cream to celebrate. I didn't notice at first, but she had them write something a little different on one of the birthday cupcakes. 😂

One week since someone on an e-scooter slammed into me and changed the entire rest of my summer. One very long week. Grateful to be surrounded by so much love and support. I have so many people who make me feel so seen and so heard just as I am and it's not lost on me how lucky I am.

Injuries are so weird. My pain is mostly feeling much more managed & I'm not getting the maddening, intense burning pain as much, but today I feel this like listless pain. Like I can't find a comfortable spot, can't pinpoint where it really hurts, it's just...not right & I can't sleep.

This week: #Calgary city council fights against a more compact, less car-centric city. #Alberta provincial govt works to dismantle the bike lanes it considers woke and harmful to society. And our federal government is hard at work to boost oil and gas sales as the only way to save the country.

Our kids are with my in-laws while we settle in to bring at home & me being mostly pretty helpless & it's so quiet & weird & I have so much time to just...exist. lol

The whataboutism when you date to suggest that getting around by bike with children in weather is actually pretty great (except for the car drivers who may or may not try to kill you because your city doesn't have the political will to make it safer).

Here in Alberta, rage baiting towards people on bikes, who also happen to be people who walk, drive, and take transit, is only going to do one thing: Make roads less safe for everyone. It's all so sad and frustrating.

But no one is trying to eradicate biking. Liberal car-drivers are saying "Hey, if it works for you, like if you don't have babies and five bags of groceries to get through extreme weather with a disabled body, go for it. I support safe bike lanes!" Then they get told "You need to stop driving."

There is no reason why suburb should mean completely and utterly unwalkable, zero bus or trolley, and requires a car for all basic needs though which is the point most of us are trying to make. Well, no, there is a reason that gets floated and it's usually code for segregation.
