Last year, I publicly complained multiple times (see e.g. elevanth.org/blog/2025/07...) that the open access movement had been captured by publishers, and we are now worse off than before open access. Well people got mad at me for saying it. But I think things are still getting worse.

A nice example for educators in the technical aspects of #datavis, cartography and computer science (I am one). We need to be teaching tech people to take the ethics of their work seriously and the obligations they have to act responsibly.

Ah, damn, I stuffed up the numbers here. I meant to compare DP27 (435+ days) to DP23 (191) because DP23 didn't have the 2-step process and was quite a "typical" duration for the ARC at that time.

The UK government’s research grant agency wants to cut grant processing times from 195 days to 90. Meanwhile, the Australian equivalent, has increased it from 195 days to at least 435 (DP26 vs. DP27). This is for comparable, “applicant led grants”. Make it make sense.
