I think it is cowardly to not engage with the seriousness of our information problems. There, I said it. It is cowardice to crawl back into explanations like "people are all idiotsssssss if they would just listen to meeeeee and use technology the riiiiiiight way" I have no more patience for it.

SMS is actually an often overseen example of interoperability that one can use to explain the benefits of shared protocols to non-tech people. Not only does it work across different cell providers it also works across all cell phones.

That is so weird. When phone companies lost their monopoly it was very important that all the new companies would be interoperable, that a user could move freely from one to another. There were working groups that worked on the same for text messaging. That was not successful. The large 🧵1/3
