This is a UK 🧵 I'm sure there's a university or museum group somewhere who can do their best with these tapes. Reel to reel players still exist. (There might be folks who have an old reel to reel in a cabinet or seasonal cottage somewhere. My Dad used to hook a bunch of albums together on tape.)

But I don't know anything about tapes or digitisation or anything like that. I don't even know how I would play this. I don't even know if it's still in good enough condition to play. So my question is... How? How do I take these two tapes, this two part performance, and make the choir live again?

Excellent thread! There *are* rewards for being A Good Guy Who Speaks Up even if they are not immediately obvious or publicly bestowed. First, integrity is its own reward. Maybe you didn’t save the world or change hearts & minds. But if you held the line on not making it worse, that’s something.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

It probably wouldn't hurt to let #booksky know that @sherwood.bsky.social's great series is rolling out again with bright new covers. This is a wonderful epic fantasy series that doesn't talk down to Middle Grade but is enjoyed by adults. #Recommended! The third book returns today.

A few days ago, I shared a link to the City Reliquary page which displayed my donation of a brick I rescued in 1982 from the rubble of what had been the Helen Hayes Theater. As only a fragment of my accompanying letter was visible in their photo, I thought I'd dig out and share the full letter here.

Dear City Reliquary:

While visiting your marvelous museum last week, I realized that an object which I have carried with me through four states over 33 years should from now on reside with you. And so enclosed please find a very special brick.

The Fulton Theatre opened in 1911 at 210 West 46th Street. But that isn’t the name under which I knew it, for it was renamed the Helen Hayes Theatre in 1955, the year of my birth, to honor the great actress of that name, and was demolished starting on March 22, 1982, after a temporary injunction was lifted.

The theater world was aghast, and there were many protests and arrests, but nothing could stop the machinery of progress from tearing down the historic theater.

Christopher Reeve said during those final protests (as reported in The New York Times), ''Even if they win today we must never forget how we feel here.’'

I did not forget. On April 27 of that year, I squeezed over the wooden fence protecting the site and retrieved a brick. A brick which I am now handing on to you.

How can I be so sure of the date of my acquisition of this brick? Because on April 28, I made the following entry in my journal.

[I then inserted a scan from my diary which included the following handwritten entry: "We had dinner before the show, and while wandering the Times Square area I was aghast at the pile of rubble that was the Helen Hayes Theatre, the demolition of which was begun while I was in Oregon. I picked up a brick by leaning over the protective wooden fence, and it is now sitting on top of one of my shelves."]

Can I be sure that this brick is from the Helen Hayes Theatre, and is not the detritus of a nearby souvlaki stand? I cannot. But until proven otherwise by experts in the history of bricks, let us maintain that it is.

I have treasured this memento for 33 years. Now it’s your turn.

Sincerely,

Scott Edelman

Oh dear, I am tempted to respond to a person with Influence In Birding who has a belittling, dismissive thread on here but then I’d give them more attention. ARG! Also it may be on purpose to provoke people? Which has definitely worked on me. Posting an awesome bird instead. (Ruddy Duck) #birds 🌿

HERBS CAN BE, AND ARE, MEDICINE IN MANY SITUATIONS. ACTIVATED CHARCOAL IS THOROUGH. There. I feel better now. Also? Activated charcoal & clay grab EVERYTHING. Take an hour minimum away from medications & supplements. IMOO!!! IANAD. Just have used activated charcoal/clay to remove toxins.

Also your annual PSA that using activated charcoal for spooky Halloween food can really mess with your medications. 🙃 this includes birth control last I heard so

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

Skydivers alert emergency crews, assist after plane crashes near East Troy airport

Four people were aboard the single-engine plane when it went down in a cornfield near Carvers School Road in East Troy at about 1:30 p.m.
