Oi pessoal!

"LibreOffice 26.8 contains no generative AI features. Documents are not transmitted to remote services for processing, and no component of the suite requires network access to function. This is a deliberate position."

After a long week, all material for Spiel Essen pitching is done! My great friend and co-designer Danilo Valente (from Abroad and Landmarks fame) will be there to pitch a lot of cool games, including FIVE we created together 🎲✂️ Let me share the pitch videos because I'm proud of them:

I can't stand the whole "but I'm using AI because I don't know how to do X in my game". - Find a creative solution around your limitations. - Try to do something for the first time. - Collaborate with friends. Basically, try to enjoy the process. Otherwise, what's the point?

After the last Button Shy design challenge, I offered feedback to willing entrants in exchange for a small charitable donation. That meant watching and rewatching a lot of pitch videos, and there’s one big piece of feedback that I found myself repeating: SHOW US WHAT MAKES YOUR GAME EXCITING. 1/8

As Orson Welles said: "The enemy of art is the absence of limitations." And in that sense I think it's a defining feature of indie games. Some creative limitation that is powering interesting outcomes. the fact that they aren't big teams making lavish productions.. is the entire point.

After over 8 years working in the tabletop industry here's the main lesson. Effort, talent and care do not reflect commercial success. This industry is filled with passionate humans creating beautiful things too easily missed. So much respect for all the makers out there trying to find a way.
