This is basically the implicit argument to trump made about January 6. I haven't been punished for it so it can't have been that bad

Can't get numb to this stuff. Pursuing a case that you know lacks PC, getting an indictment via grand jury misconduct, and doing so for corrupt purposes coming directly from the president. There's not much a prosecutor can do that's worse than this.
Pirro "gave the White House a heads-up last week before filing the motion to dismiss the charge against Mr. Hearn in federal court, although it was not clear if Mr. Trump was briefed." www.nytimes.com/2026/08/04/u...
“read the article darth” they said “it will be fun” they said
Oh my god the dietician who is telling everyone in the White House to only eat steak and sauerkraut doesn't wipe his ass.
James Madison: "ambition must be made to counteract ambition" This worthless loser:
Cornyn: "There's nothing we could do to rein in the president"
Never in my life has "is hell real?" been such a critical question in American politics.
ICE agents raided the family dormitories at the Dilley detention center and snatched this Bluey coloring page from a child before they could finish. I sued ICE to get these drawings back. You can what they sent me here: www.muellershewrote.com/p/breaking-e...
This may be a website for the most humorless liberal scolds on earth, but it is also a website for 38-year-old mil history aficionados who instantly know what this is referring to
I forgot how much of a shitshow Leyte Gulf was…not exactly Halsey’s finest hour lol
American 1st amendment jurisprudence ain't perfect but every time this site reminds me of how things work in the UK I thank my lucky stars that we have it.
Really important to understand that Truman and Ike set up & institutionalized a whole process so that presidents would be briefed on (among other things) what was true and what wasn't and it served all the presidents since then well and Trump deliberately garbaged it and has no idea what's going on.
Very cool we have an 80 year old president who proudly displays his ability to discern reality from the Oval Office, a condition worsened by a bubble of sycophants and his struggles with AI
Erick is still trying and failing to understand that "when you're a star they let you do it" is the unofficial motto of the GOP now.

There's a persuasive argument that based on conventional liberal principles (central planning, market distortions, coercion, interference in hiring, trade, manufacturing, mergers & acquisitions, etc.) this is the least market-friendly administration since FDR. Possibly ever.
The Trump administration is so opposed to socialism that it has acquired — sometimes by coercion — equity stakes in 30 companies so far. www.cato.org/blog/governm...
Days where my professional expertise is relevant to the news tend to be bad news days. Today is one of those days.
Sen. Bernie Moreno (paraphrased): On second thought, now that it's clear this is making me personally look awful, I say domestic abuse, lying about it, and failing basic standards of character like that has no place in the Republican Party, except at the top, and some other places too. Thank you.
senator bernie moreno finally makes a statement about the allegations of abuse by rep. max miller against his daughter and granddaughter after miller went live on X this morning to deny everything.
It's pretty infuriating that Trump is denying disaster aid to Oregon for political reasons and I have barely heard anything about it, while Biden was falsely accused of doing the exact same thing to North Carolina and millions of people believed that

“Sandwich guy case” “Harvard clawed frog embryo smuggling case” “Olympic canoeist reflecting pool vandalism case” “James Comey seashells Instagram post case” New rule: If the case sounds like a Mad Libs story, it’s probably about to implode.
Great thread here from Michael Hobbes, and I'll add my little extra: Politicians and police often try to force people into treatment without understanding that forced treatment generally isn't effective. People like doing drugs because life can suck and an escape can feel nice.
It was inevitable that reactionary centrists would turn against harm reduction and call for a return to mass incarceration
It is funny that this person thinks “immigrants defended the union while native born whites sought to destroy it in the name of slavery” is an argument against immigrants being Americans. This is precisely the point, nothing about being born here makes you better bsky.app/profile/aphc...
Another datapoint for the fascist radicalisation of institutional pillars of much of the American Right
Gift alert if you have a dad in your life to shop for! I think they're only for sale through August. It was a real missed opportunity that they didn't make this a gift set with a tiny can. And maybe the tiny holster. But it's still fun & useful.
To be making the argument in 2026 that immigration is a Republican leaning issue so Democrats shouldn’t campaign on it, and especially Trump’s overreach on deportations, is to be completely ignorant of the data and events of the last 18 months
This is the problem with the idea that Dems can't go on offense on immigration. It's not okay for Collins to have a clear field on TV to sell herself as a moderate on ICE. CNN has Trump 22 points underwater on this. Two other polls have Ds *tied with the GOP* on it! newrepublic.com/article/2138...
They're doing this in at least three other cases I can think of off the top of my head. It's totally unprecedented stuff
FLASH: Justice Dept seeks to dismiss Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool criminal case against former Olympian David Hearn Trump Admin acknowledges: "Damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in June 2026 was the result of flawed installation by the contractor"
"The people who work on farms often don't own them" is something that would have been completely intuitive to 99% of people for 99% of human history but is completely unintelligible to the people who make US public policy.
A very serious Rural Politico once told me "Dems have to go to farmer meetings! We gotta be where the people are!" I was in fact in a farmer meeting at that very moment! So I live-texted him the meeting. They were complaining that they want indentured workers that they don't have to pay or feed.
The thing about natural immunity is that it requires you actually get the disease. The whole reason immunity is desirable is because it means you won’t get the disease. It really doesn’t matter which is better at preventing subsequent infections. Only vaccines can prevent initial infection.
I can tell the bond folks the exact date Kevin Warsh will start advocating for major rate hikes to tame inflation: January 20, 2029

I have been getting increasingly uncomfortable with some shit that I see left of center posters say, in here but the reality of our era is that none of it is as bad as the median Republican member of Congress.
Sen. Jim Banks repeatedly refers to American citizens as "babies of invaders"
ICYMI last night, Justice Willett wrote an excellent dissent in defense of free speech and the freedom to protest urging the Supreme Court to take up this case and reverse the 5th Cir.'s ridiculous theory of negligent protest leader liability.
UPDATE: 5th Cir. will not rehear this deeply flawed decision en banc. Lawgeeks, Judge Willett authors an important dissent arguing that the panel majority's "negligent protest leader" theory is incompatible with the freedoms protected by the First Amendment. www.ca5.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub...
I am starting to think that baseball crank and the various other conservative assholes who weren't quite full maga were a load bearing part of Twitter discourse. Left of center posters would quote dunk on them but they're not here, so we quote dunk on libs and leftists instead.
I am torn. On the one hand, you e got the argument that tit for tat is necessary to deter this kind of stuff. On the other, selective partisan impoundment is so corrosive to the union that I'm not sure retaliation is worth the risk.
“Trump has rejected disaster aid for Democratic-run states at the highest rate in the 47-year history of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.” Right now people in blue states are basically paying federal taxes as if they’re colonized territories of red states. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...
That’s every conspiracy theory. That’s the POINT of conspiracy theory.
