“oh nooo all my dumbass thoughts” like im never gonna have a dumbass thought again
I don’t need to tell folks I don’t use AI in my games, because it is aggressively obvious that I do not. I bring an amateurish enthusiasm that I hope will become increasingly charming as we grow bored with regurgitated AI art.
Was on the fence about buying something so I decided to see what else they had in the shop… A bunch of terf boy wizard designs. This is an indie artist, so they’re not funding that odious woman, but it made the decision not to give them my money very, very easy.
I showed my kids that old “bring on the trumpets!!” ad and now the preschooler keeps going “hahahaha, trumpets!” which so far is 80/20 adorable vs annoying.
True story: I assumed Biddy BLAS was a new linear algebra library because of the name and the fact that everyone excited about it on my timeline were video game developers. For anyone else similarly confused: it’s not, it’s a character in a video game.

I am a casual collector of foreign pattern playing cards. So far, I’ve got French, Czech William Tell, Russian, French Tarot, Italian Toscane, Italian Triestine, Spanish Castilian, hanafuda, and hwatu. And standard/international decks of course. About half of them I chanced upon in thrift stores.
If, like me, you’ve ever thought: “I bet you could make an English version of Karuta using Shakespeare quotes.” Well, behold: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/10...
Shakespeare CARDUTA

I set a goal to develop & web-publish one game every month in 2026. I have 2 games finished for the remaining two months, so: yay! I counted tonight how many designs I playtested but then did NOT publish this year: 18. 18 other games I worked on besides the 12 I put out there.

Two staples of Playfest are our guest speaker and the games raffle. This year we were treated to a fantastic talk from @jameswallis.bsky.social about designing SE!ZE with Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc and attending its glamorous launch in Milan, setting the standard for board game releases 😂 🎲✂️

This seems as good a spot as any to share the results of my Pub Meeple ranking of the Knizia games I own. Here are my top 9 (of 36). Orongo was # 10. Did my husband & I spend hours earlier comparing our respective results to see which games we were most/least aligned on!? Why yes, of course we did.
7 yo seeing a historical photo on a plaque: “look! It’s Grey World!”
player aide as the back art of cards would be kinda smart. I understand why it isn’t done, but it would be great functionally
I designed Big Apple because my then-2yo wanted to join in when her big sister and I would play Golden Pig (itself a simplification of Scopa). Still gets requested from time to time.
I played 3 handed solo again, with a new board and some new rules. The endgame scoring is better, it is balanced with in-game scoring. Finishing the game is better, it needs actual testing, it might be too swingy, it’s hard to tell. Maybe there are times when someone can just get bad draws.
stamp pads in different colours, one for each player. Frequently, throughout the game, players coat their fingers in fresh ink. Play a game of cards. After the game is finished, lay the cards to dry, and then display them sandwiched between acrylic. I think that would be neat. 🤷♀️
Traddish card game idea: Draw your hand one by one, in the Chinese style, first player to announce that they’re the declarer is the declarer. Payouts are increased (both ways) the earlier on in the process you announce.
