Stealing money specifically appropriated for Slovakia and North Macedonia FEELS like a favor to Putin. Stealing money specifically appropriated for Iraq -- from which we've withdrawn a SECOND major base in the Middle East -- feels like a favor to Putin's allies in Iran.

For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing

Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.

The result you get from of asking an AI to explain itself is even less trustworthy than the silly botched result you’re asking it to explain. It wasn’t trained on descriptions of its own operations.

This announced impoundment is best viewed as a confession. The Admin is claiming a non-existent right to NOT use the funds provided by Congress for their lawful purpose; it is employing a timing gimmick that relies on having ILLEGALLY withheld the funds up until now.

Maybe --- just maybe, mind you --- we need to have a long conversation about Schmitt's "criminal falsification of evidence against a witness." Which, as I believe, violates 18 U.S. Code § 1519, (falsifying records in federal investigations) with the penalty being "imprisonment for up to 20 years."

Fun Fact: In 2014, Tuberville started a charity for veterans. But it turns out it was basically just a scam. The vast majority of donations went to hosting golf tournaments so Tuberville could network for personal gain. He also ran 3 Ponzi schemes. But sure, Furries are the real danger. Right.

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.

When the Department of Homeland Security sent Nevada a list of 185 names last month that it claimed identified noncitizens who had been improperly allowed to register to vote, state election officials got to work.
On Tuesday, the state sent a strongly worded rebuke to the federal government: Every single person on the list was a lawful citizen.
"As for the 185 individuals, our records indicate that they were citizens," Greg D. Ott, a deputy attorney general in Nevada, wrote, according to a copy of a letter sent to Department of Homeland Security officials obtained through open records requests.
"You have provided nothing of substance to suggest otherwise."Following the meeting, Ms. Vogt sent a clarifying email to Nevada officials. "I also wanted to be sure I clarified that we did not reduce the 15,903 to 185," she wrote. "We've manually reviewed some of the 15,903 and confirmed 185 are not U.S. Citizens."
Now, Nevada officials are saying even that 185 number is wrong. They also took issue with a letter D.H.S. sent them in early September, in which the agency reiterated its initial claims about nearly 16,000 noncitizens on the rolls and pressured state officials to review each case in a letter to Nevada officials in early September.

From 16,000 to 185 to Zero: Trump’s Claims of Illegal Voting in Nevada Fizzle. "The state sent a strongly worded rebuke to the federal government: Every single person on the list was a lawful citizen."

Meanwhile the real miraculous future tech is solar & mRNA vaccines: preserving the planet and curing cancer. But we’re supposed to hand everything over to malevolent peeping toms and resource oubliettes for an ill defined ‘pay no attention to the man behind the curtain’ progress. It isn’t rational.

Spending these days fact-checking and endnoting, I've been Googling at industrial scale, which has given my a brain-melting lesson in how fucked we are as a civilization. In today's installment, a quote from Geo W. Bush's 2nd inaugural in 2005 is depicted—why not?—as one from Obama's in 2013.

Yeah: the Unitary Executive theory of removals is dumb because the President must faithfully execute the laws—including civil rights law—and firing people because of race and gender violates civil rights law. People really need to read Federalist Paper No. 69.

In a Manhattan federal courtroom today, a lawyer for the Trump administration argued that Article II of the Constitution lets the president fire a federal employee because he’s Black, and there’s nothing a court can do about it. www.politico.com/news/2026/09...

The panic/anticipation of the AI IPOs feels...off? Someone who is smarter at the economy tell me, is it typical for companies to keep delaying their IPOs without publishing a prospectus like Anthropic is doing? (at least, as of an early Sept report in Forbes) www.forbes.com/sites/jonmar...

Anthropic Delays IPO And Expands Credit Line To $15 Billion

Anthropic pushes its IPO to mid October while securing a $15 billion credit line, signaling lender confidence and a stronger balance‑sheet strategy.

Good morning to everyone who likes seeing Peter Thiel so so so scared ONLY

I understand the “absolutely nots”, but then I also think a lot of 1960s dems in congress were either outright racists or hedgers on race on the campaign trail, but who voted with the majority on civil rights laws and confirmed Thurgood Marshall et al to the court. And I feel like I’d take that.
