Custom Properties. Variables is what people wanted. Custom Properties is how they were implemented in CSS. Because they are properties, they are a core part of the language: they cascade, go through the value processing steps, etc. — so much more powerful than just "variables".

I’ve put hours into learning CSS over the years and continue to do so happily. Building with HTML and CSS is the part of the work I enjoy the most.

I wish I could be at #CSSday this year. Last year's CSS Day was incredible and I'm so sad to be missing it. Best of luck to all the speakers. And to the first time attendees like I was last year, I found my people there. I hope it does the same for you.
