Surely he has to resign again to let the people of Clacton prejudge the resukt of the police investigation? It’s much more serious than the investigation he resigned over last time…

“The trouble with you, Spode, is that just because you have succeeded in inducing a handful of half-wits to disfigure the London scene by going about in black shorts, you think you’re someone. You hear them shouting “Heil, Spode!” and you imagine it is the Voice of the People.” Bertie Wooster

Daniel Thomas and his Black Shorts in London today.

No kidding - this is why I retrained as an IT auditor back in the nineties. I’d consumed ‘Star Trek’ mostly via James Blish’s novelizations, which were always easy to find in second-hand bookshops when I was a lad, and learning how to shut down insane computers felt like a useful survival skill.

(shaking herslf out of weird mood) Okay, time to go through the “camera roll” in the iPad and inflict unusual or quirky images on everybody. This’ll do as a start…

This ancient Egyptian bronze of a mother cat nursing her kittens is a scene which feels instantly familiar thousands of years later! 🐈‍⬛ 🐾😍 The cat represents the ancient Egyptian goddess Bastet in her role as protector of mothers and children. 📷 Brooklyn Museum #Caturday #Archaeology

This Brooklyn Musem image shows a small bronze group of a mother cat and four kittens set on bronze base, which is in turn set on a wooden base. The mother cat is reclining on her left side with legs outstretched and her head at right. Her left fore and hind legs lie forward while her right fore and hind legs are drawn back. Her tail is draped over her right hind leg. Her head is upright perhaps tilted back slightly as one of the kittens, set between her forelegs, playfully climbs toward her neck. The next three kittens are being nursed by the mother cat. Two are between her fore and hind legs, the last is between the cat's tail and left foreleg. Mother cat wears a necklace which is indicated by an incised line running around her neck. On the front of the bronze base toward the right side (below the cat's left paw) is an inscription ‘Bastet, given life’, showing that the cat represents the goddess fulfilling one of her roles as protector of women and children. Dated circa 664-30 BC, Dynasty 26 or later. Said to come from Saqqara. The museum gives the dimensions as 6.1 x 8.8 x 5 cm.

Was the start of my main RQ campaign! A really good way to get into RuneQuest if you don't want to get overwhelmed, complete with a localized character generation history to make characters useful for the campaign. What did you or your family do to get banished to the ass end of nowhere?

“Tales of the Sun County Militia” (Sandheart Volume One), by Jonathan Webb and his friends, has received a Platinum best-seller medal for over 1,000 sales on DriveThruRPG. It’s a Bronze Age police procedural campaign setting for RuneQuest, on the raggedy edge of Sun County. tiny.cc/jc-sandheart

Art by Mark Baldwin: poor pilgrims cluster around the Sandheart plinths, while a Sun-worshipper ‘does his thing’ up on the wall.

We're currently playing the Sandheart scenarios and having an absolute blast. If you buy Volume One, I guarantee you'll want to buy the others. A beautifully realised setting crammed with interesting NPCs, solid adventures and tantalising plot hooks for your own development.

BREAKING: Reform UK’s James Orr and Dan Jukes have ‘stepped down’ from their roles following last night’s undercover filming on Channel 4 News. Nigel Farage remains in post.

In loving memory of the late, great Dario Corallo, who passed away earlier this year, I've put together "Dario's Friends and Foes: The Cradle". This makes available all 155 card standees that he generously created when we ran The Cradle as a multi-stage tournament game at Chaosium Con UK 2025.

Symbols matter. We have to undo every one of these things in 2029. No TrumpRx, no Trump coins, no Trump accounts, no Trump passports, no Trump Kennedy Center, no Trump Airport, no Trump-class ship, no F-47 fighter jet, no Trump Ballroom, and no Trump Arch. Treat it like a statue of Jefferson Davis.

(1) 🤮 (2) A "Military Observation Deck"? Huh? Seems to be a newly tacked-on idea. Was it added just to provide a national-security rationale—à la the ballroom having a bunker, which helped Trump in lawsuits against the ballroom? (3) The traffic is going to be awful, ugh. (4) TEAR IT DOWN 2029.

Screenshot of a tweet from Interior Secretary Doug Burgum dated 3 September 2026. Above some pictures — artistic renderings of Trump's proposed arch — Burgum writes: "We are pleased to announce that after a very long wait (over 125 years!), we are preparing to start, over the next two-week period, the excavation work necessary for the Great Triumphal Arch and Military Observation Deck, at Memorial Circle on Columbia Island between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. This will be one of the Great Pieces of American Architecture, honoring the history and significance of Arlington Cemetery and befitting the most powerful Capital in the World."

My PoD from Drivethru arrived. I lost track of how long it took. About 10 days? That's about normal if I understand correctly. Anyway I've been a fan of Mark's for years and was delighted when he started illustrating Glorantha, so this was an easy buy. I'd love a Katrin Dirim one too.
